This is a great and eclectic sampler of the Swing Era. The movie was wonderful (if you haven't seen it, DO so; I count it among my favorite cinematic experiences) and this music was the thread that helped tie it all together. I don't dance at all, but I ALWAYS try to when certain cuts of this CD hit my jukebox rotation! ...now, WHICH foot crosses over the other on the downbeat?...ah! why do I bother! As a growing fan of swing music and a lover of this movie, this sountrack is a definite buy. The album contains great swing classics such as "Sing Sing Sing", "It don't mean a thing", and a personal favorite of mine, "Bei Mir Bist Du Schon". This is a wonderful soundtrack that can make even the most hard-core rocker appreciate Big Band music. Rineheart, Goodman, Basie, Ellington, and others were wonderful musicians whose music inspired the soul and lifted the feet to the dance floor. This movie/soundtrack is what first got me interested in the music and people of this era and now I do extensive reserch on the subject. I love the soundtrack as well as the movie! I was listening to it during school the other day and I was bopping my head and singing along. The kids in my class were looking at me weird!! I most definately have gotten my friends hooked on the Swing Kids!!! My favorite song on the whole soundtrack is Flat Foot Floogie!! Fortunately, in this CD, the movie music transisitions last only long enough for you to catch your breath. It's a collection more than a sound track. The movie was a bit disturbing, but good bit of history -- dancing and music phenominal. The music cooks. If you sit still through it, you might want to check your rhythmn and then look around for your pulse.
