Free Music Review: Syd Barrett: Poet, Painter, Floydian Genius
Hit: 5 Stars

The Madcap Laughs, the amazing solo album of the true genius and patriarch of Pink Floyd, Syd Barrett, is an astounding mix of sheer genius on the part of Barrett. I don't care what some of the novice listeners of this album may say, Barrett's mix of, at times, surrealist psychadelica and times of straight ahead folk rock merely show the range and breadth of this maddened genius' poetic expanse. I highly recommend this album to anyone wishing to deepen their music collection and their knowledge and love for this amazing musician and outright overlooked genius of the early days of rock music.

BE SURE TO LISTEN TO THE TRACKS:
OCTOPUS
LONG GONE
DARK GLOBE and
NO MAN'S LAND

Free Music Review: forgive yourself
Hit: 5 Stars

this review may seem idiosyncratic, but all i can say about this work is how it makes me feel. from the heart Barrett means this work. not to say that others in the craft don't but many are following a carrot. Barrett had already followed and eaten the poisoned carrot with nothing left to gain or lose than to loll away these silly and beautiful songs. Barrett's work takes me away and even makes me feel good about strummnig out a few bars of my own. his work makes me feel glad to be alive, aging and doing my own thing without fear or hope of some other reward than the satisfaction of creation. something i value here is in Barrett's mistakes because he doesn't make mistakes, he un-makes them.

Free Music Review: A psych-pop classic from the creator of Pink Floyd.
Hit: 5 Stars

The Madcap Laughs was the first solo album from the founding member and displaced leader of Pink Floyd Syd Barrett. The tracks on this disc are wide ranging (Octopus,
Dark Globe, etc.) and they all show what a talent Syd was and how too much LSD can really melt your brain. Acoompanied by his fellow members from Pink Floyd and
The Soft Machine, Syd paints a world filled with melancholy sadness and an inner madness that begs for release. Syd would go back into hiding a emerge a few years later to record a follow up disc that's more polished and radio friendly but filled with the same great material.

Highly recommended.

Free Music Review: one of my most favorite albums to listen to
Hit: 5 Stars

Syd Barrett is one of the most underrated musicians ever. The songs on this album range from good to great. My faves on this one are, uh, ALL OF THEM! I just love each and every song on this album, but if I had to choose a favorite, it would have to be either "Terrapin", "Dark Globe" (which was covered in the 1980s by REM), "Octopus" (which is where the album title comes from...a lyric goes "Well the madcap laughed at the man in the water"), or "Golden Hair" (Syd used part of a James Joyce poem and set the words to music for this masterpiece). I love this album, and I bet you will, too!

Free Music Review: Syd is Lord
Hit: 5 Stars

With The Piper at the Gates of Dawn, Syd Barrett proved that he was not only the greatest musician within the rock genre ever, but one of the most formidable musical talents in all of human history. With the Madcap Laughs, Barrett, the Celt, turns rock/pop completely on it's head and again creates a work of utter genius that continues to surpass, in substance and origionality, anything else. The songs, though poorely structured, pack an emotional punch that will practically make your heart bleed. The lyrics, nonsensical and sloppily delivered though they are, are never the less the best you will ever hear on a "pop" record.
