Free Music Notes for Steal This AlbumFree Music Review: May possibly be SOAD's best, yet! Hit: 5 Stars
When System of a Down first began, most of us were blown away. Some stuck by them to this very day and appreciated every one of their songs, some more than others. Although the first two SOAD albums were awesome, this is quite better in my opinion. It is lyrically and musically talented and beautiful. Daron and Serj show of their great voices. John shows he can drum, yet again. Shavo also shows that he is a great addition to the band.
I have read that these songs were all recorded during the Toxicity sessions except for 36 and Mr. Jack, which was supposedly made during the first album and rerecorded, as were all of the songs. It is too bad that Cherry, Forever, and the other songs that didn't make it to this album weren't on here.
A few people dislike SOAD and their style. They put System down. I have a word to say to all of you. Although, it may not be as bad as you thought it would be, but anyway, YOU SUCK!!! SOAD RULE!!! HA HA HA!!!
Anyway, I will yet again write a small, crappy (not tended to be) review of each song on Steal This Album!
1. CHIC 'N' STEW - (9/10) - A great opener to the album. Odd lyrics, and great guitar riffs. It took me a while to like compared to the others.
2. INNERVISION - (10/10) - This was one of my favorite songs when it was leaked online prior to STA. It became even better as they added more singing by Daron to it. The first version I heard just said "innervision" over and over again near the end and every time I listen to that version I miss the beauty of the newer one. Great song, anyway. Good lyrics.
3. BUBBLES - (9/10) - As I listened to this for the first time, I just put it on repeat because it was a little too short. Bubbles is a great song in pretty much every way, except for the part that is is only 1:57 long. Or shall I say, short. It was previously named "Chupa Cabra" before the release of STA.
4. BOOM! - (9/10) - It would be much better if Serj turned his talking affect into a more singing style. The music video slightly sucks due to all of the people talking and stuff. It is funny, though.
5. NUGUNS - (8/10) - I would call this a rip off of the earlier "Defied You", but it is almost completely different. Serj and Daron actually sing more in Nuguns, while in DY they do more of screaming. Different lyrics, too. Great song, however.
6. A.D.D. - (8/10) - Good song, good lyrics, slightly just above average. (American Dream Denial)
7. MR. JACK - (9/10) - Earlier called P.I.G., standing for who-knows-what...whatever... Great song, slightly funny lyrics, great intro to the song.
8. I-E-A-I-A-O - (10/10) - One of the best songs on STA. A bit of odd lyrics sung quickly, except for the "i e a i a o" part...
9. 36 - (8/10) - 36 was made during the first days of SOAD under a different name. Extremely short. It would totally be better if it was longer. It is a good song, still.
10. PICTURES - (9/10) - Great song in almost every aspect. A bit odd in parts, though.
11. HIGHWAY SONG - (10/10) - One my favorite SOAD songs. Has great lyrics and many parts of it are very beautiful. Gets stuck in my head and I start to scream the lyrics to people who I have never seen and probably never see again. Oh, well... You know?
12. F**K THE SYSTEM - (10/10) - Great, confusing song. Funny and hard to comprehend. FTS also gets stuck in my head and I scream this song at people, too.
13. EGO BRAIN - (10/10) - Beautiful song in every aspect. I love it. Beautiful vocals, lyrics, and guitar work.
14. THETAWAVES - (8/10) - Good song, good lyrics. Meh. Not too interesting, but worth a couple of lisens and no skipping.
15. ROULETTE - (10/10) - Another beautiful song in lyrics and vocals and guitar works.
16. STREAMLINE - (10/10) - Yet another beautiful song. This version is even better than the version on the Scorpion King soundtrack. It has more singing effort by Daron. It has great lyrics, and great guitar action also.
SONGS THAT I KNOW OF THAT DIDN'T MAKE IT ON STEAL THIS ALBUM!
These songs are a couple of songs that I know of that I have actually heard that were recorded during Toxicity but did not make it on STA or Toxicity. That truly sucks. They are a couple of SOAD's best songs.
FOREVER - (10/10) - This song should have seriously been on STA. It is a great song. It has great lyrics. Great everything. I LOVE IT!!! GHAAAA!!!!
CHERRY - (9/10) - Cherry is an odd song with weird lyrics. It is a really cool song with cool guitar riffs or whatever. It is a little short, though. Cherry is my sister's favorite SOAD song.
DEFIED YOU - (9/10) - Begins pretty much like Nuguns, but it is a lot different in the fact that it has no true singing parts in it, but mostly screaming. Good song. It is better than Nuguns I think. It should've been on STA also.
I am sorry if this didn't help you. I can't write reviews worth crap. Anyway, you should really check out all of SOAD's albums. Even the two that come out in 2005, Hypnotize and Mesmerize. There are many great SOAD songs that are not on albums. So if you have any friends with those songs... then mooch off of them and copy the CD and send me a copy. Ta ta.
Steal This Album PosterWith Rage Against the Machine disbanded, System of a Down ascend to the political aggro-rock throne, and with Steal This Album, the Los Angeles-based quartet prove themselves worthy to wear the crown. A play on the late activist Abbie Hoffman?s Steal This Book, the album consists of 16 System songs from the mid-1990s through 2001. The band stresses the songs are not "B-sides or outtakes"; in fact, they clearly show System at their apex. These smart, varied songs feature Serj's frenetic, staccato, Jello Biafra-like phrasing atop the band's edgy, commanding, metal-meets-punk base. From the funny, frantic "Chic 'N' Stu," to "F**k the System," "A.D.D. (American Dream Disorder)," and "Boom!" System keep listeners guessing with discomfiting time changes that match up with Serj's incendiary lyrics. In keeping with their creative, fan-oriented approach, System are releasing four limited runs of the CD, each version featuring artwork from a different band member. This is not escapist rock. It's an intense and eye-opening aural history lesson you can mosh to. --Katherine Turman
