Free Music Notes for Steal This AlbumFree Music Review: System of a Down Hit: 5 Stars
Being an old system fan, i was majorly dissapointed with the release of toxicity - a collection of melodic garbage that was in NO way nearly as good as the powerful masterpiece that was their debut album, System of a Down. Not too long after Toxicity came out, i soon began to hear all this buzz about a new System album, which they were forced to begin work on because of a leakage of 30 or so previously unreleased tracks. Well, after hearing Toxicity, i wasnt really sure if i wanted to give this album a shot or not. But i felt a need to stay loyal to System - after all, i still listen to their debut album. So i got online and downloaded a bunch of songs, and a month later, i bought the CD. I can tell you right now, that although i was expecting to once again be let down, i was literally BLOWN AWAY by the material on 'Steal This Album!'. This album is in almost NO WAY like Toxicity, and System will be remembered for it for years to come. Anyway, you've probably heard enough blabbering from me, so i'll just skip all the BS and cut to the chase. Here is my review of every song on the CD:Chic 'n' Stu - WOW! Talk about fast paced and loud. This is what system is about folks - heaviness, speed, and incredibly ODD lyrics. 10/10 Innervision - This is the song they're pushing to make the next single. Its a good song, although it does have a toxicity influence... btw, System always amazes me, with this song they managed to cliche a word no one ever uses! Haha despite the fact that they used the word Innervision too much in this track, i really do enjoy it, so i'll give it a 8/10 Bubbles - Great song... i really like this one. From the brutallity of the guitars to the masculent mating call of Daron, everything about this song is great... 10/10 Boom! - GREAT song. i love this song. Serj sings in a sort of monotonous voice in this one and it makes for some really eerie effects. Nesides that though, the song has awesome lyrics, too. (PS. - if you like this song, u'll like the prerelease better) 10/10 Nuguns - This song is... well, lets put it this way, its not their best. I really think this song could have been so much better, but the annoying vocals in the chorus kind of ruin it for me. This one gets a 7/10 A.D.D. - American Dream Denial! Serj shows off his lyrical talent once again in this war-inspired (or uninspired?) title. The chorus in this song is AMAZING 10/10 Mr. Jack - This song blows - a LOT. but out of all the songs on the album, i probably listen to this song more than any other. Why? because the ending to this song - the last 40 seconds or so - kicks ...! Never in my life have i ever heard as good an ending to a song! The song starts slow and ends with a bang. REAL heavy towards the end.... 11/10 (yes, 11) IEAIAIO - Good song. SoaD at it's best. 10/10 36 - the name is 36 but its only 46 seconds long... I wish it could be longer. 11/10 Pictures - haha awesome song. Too bad the chorus isnt very common in this song.. the chorus owns. 9/10 Highway Song - I loved the prerelease version of this song... It was easily my favorite song on the album. But with the release of a more produced version of this song, i feel they ruined what made this song so great... They got rid of the jibberish and added a second voice in the ending segment, but thats okay, its still a good song. 9/10 F*** The System - Hahaha this track is hilarious, although its meant to be serious. Oh well, great effort here guys. Word up 10/10 Track 13, whatever its called - WHAT IS THIS? this track ..., thats all i have to say. 3/10 Thetawaves - Good song, i love the prechorus. But not so much the chorus. 8/10 Roulette - U know, if it werent for the lyrics to this song, i would probably hate it... 10/10 Streamline - Good song, but like F*** the System and Innervision, its been out for a while, and it has gotten a little old. 9/10
Free Music Review: Stealing The System...... Hit: 5 Stars
This album entitled "Steal This Album!" is in my viewpoint a masterpiece. Let me explain. Now After all the hightened succes of Toxicity and all that jazz, a little over a year of Toxicitys release they seemingly throw out there a compilation of B sides/ and outtakes from toxicity. They were songs that didnt fit into Toxicity or wasnt up to par or some other reason. Seemingly, all these songs fit perfectly together and form one of the best albums I have ever heard. I think by them calling it STEAL THIS ALBUM, they give off a vibe that says here ya go, take it or leave. They didnt wanna put up a hype about it, they juss wanted it to be judged for what it was. No fancy cover, not even a booklet, Just the music. Heres my individual of each and every song on this great piece of art:
1. Chic N Stu-(10/10)- A song about the deadly addictions of food and food advertisements and how they have us all on the run. If you like pizza, you will love this song. I honestly think this is their funniest songs to date. Bravo.
2. Innervision-(10/10)- This is a ghouly song right here. Completely different from Chic N stu and changes pace fast. Definitly something like their first album.
3. Bubbles-(10/10)- My favorite on the album. The bass kicks into a creepy kick line while serj's ghostly voice repeats over and over,"May I remind you".
4. BOOM!-(10/10)- The first and only single off this album. It was really a perfect choice considering the political vibe but was even before we went into Iraw so you know these guys are the real deal. They've been fighting the man before anyone else cared.
5. Nuguns-(10/10)- A thrashing rock song that gets your grandma off her behind. Do not listen to while operating heavy machinery.
6. A.D.D.(American Dream Disorder)-(10/10)-One of their most politically inclined songs. Really puts this on a petastull and the honesty and rashness buts a hole in your head.
7. Mr. Jack-(8/10)- Another really creepy song, overall not the most stand out track on the LP but a definite listen to.
8. I-E-A-I-A-I-O- (10/10)- Gotta love this. A song called I E A I A I O. Only in america. Great lyrics, Great tunes, gotta love it.
9. 36-(6/10)- SOAD's 36th song. ad its about 36 seconds. Great. Woulda been a great track if it was longer.
10. Pictures-(10/10)- Oh boy! This song really picks this album up a notch. One of the best.
11. Highway song- (10/10)- Serj really picks this one up. His shouts of "Our days are never coming back!" really sticks in your head for awhile.
12. F*ck the system-(10/10)- A humorous rant of F*cking the system. I think its about how people mindlessly say F*uck the system with out really meaning it or understanding it. Suring the verses Serj is basically rambling like a looney. But then again, when isnt he?
13. Ego brain- (9/10)- A powerful song, I have no idea whats its about. I reall like the lyriics though, they have a repour about them that sparkles.
14. Thetawaves-(10/10)- This song is pretty sick. Nothing really else to say. Good night, and good luck.
15. Roulette-(10/10)-The slow song of the album. One of the best. Who ever says SOAD cant make slow songs is absolutely nuts, and this song proves it.
16. Streamline-(10/10)- Great closer, I couldve seen this on toxicity though. But either way its a complete 180 from where this album began.
FINAL WORDS:
STEAL THIS ALBUM!.........just kidding, buy the friggen thing. Your're not poor.
Free Music Review: throw out songs? no way! Hit: 5 Stars
steal this album! is basically a complilation of system's toxicity throw-outs. this is hard to believe. personally, i think this is just as good as toxicity. if you like toxicity, you will like this album. if you like the self-titled LP i can't say the same because the style is alot different. i only had toxicity and didnt really want to get it..but i got it and now i like it more than toxicity.my song breakdown: 1. Chic 'n Stu: Pretty cool song, yet I think of it more as a filler like Jet Pilot. this is a great song to rock to though. Wanted pizza pie! pizza pizza pie! 7/10 (good) 2. Innervision: This is an awesome song. when i first heard it, i was addicted. 9/10 (very good) 3. bubbles: Eh..this pretty good, nothin special. heavy addictive song. 7/10 (good) 4. Boom!: I love Serj's hypnotic voice on this song. The chorus is nothing special, but its a great song anyway. 8/10 (good) 5. Nuguns: This is a fast-paced chorus, slow verse song. i like it, but it sounds a little different. rock out! 8/10 (good) 6. ADD: Awesome song. Pure genious. THis sounds like something from Toxicity or the first album. In-your-face chorus. 10/10 (Excellent) 7. Mr. Jack: Another great melody song. This reminds me of "spiders" from the self titled LP. The only part I don't like is the end. 9.5/10 (Excellent) 8. I-E-A-I-A-I-O: Typical system song. Fast sung verses and echoing chorus. This is another heavy addictive song and very good. Serj's wailing voice sung with pride makes this great. 10/10 (Excellent) 9. .36: Good Lord. 46 seconds long. It's not even long enough to be a filler. Its cool if you need to scream or bang your head. I started it when i started typing this particular song review and it ended...now. angry at televsion. the verse kinda reminds me of the chorus to temper. 3/10 (no comment) 10. Pictures: I dont really like this songo except for the heavy part about half-way through the song. The chorus is..not good, it reminds me of like a musical or somethin. 6/10 (okay) 11. Highway Song: Great song, a tad spooky. The chorus kinda sounds like a verse to me, but its great none the less. it reminds us that good days are never comin back. cool riffs. slow dismal song. 8/10 (very good) 12. F*** the System: I like this song, except you can't play it out loud :(...this morning i listened to it and it was stuck in my head all day. very good heavy song. im not sure what to compare it to, but its awesome anyway. 9/10 (very good) 13. Ego Brain: I love this track. It's slow and melodic. I love the guitar part during the chorus (you see my pain is real). I'd have to say one of the best songs on the CD, and one of the best system songs period. slow verse, awesome heavy-but-slow chorus. 10/10 (Excellent) 14. Thetawaves: I really like this song. The first verse sounds likea science report, but the chorus saves the song. the lyrics are very deep (time feels like a midnight ride, finality waits outside, weeping in perplexity's arms, caressing our smiles inside) and all around good. 9/10 (very good) 15. Roulette: No drums, no bass. This song is just guitar, cello, and voice. It kinda reminds me of ATWA without the heavy chorus. 9/10 (very good) 16. Streamline: A little different than the rest. Kinda reminds me of "Forest." slow and fast. it was on some soundtrack..i dont remember. 8/10 (good) In conclusion, this is an awesome CD. It earned a 130.5/160 which is 81%. The last 5 songs is one of the best streaks of music on a CD. now repeat after me. I will go buy Steal This Album!
Free Music Review: Some might hate me for this, but I think it's their best album next to their debut... Hit: 5 Stars
Although some criticize Steal This Album as one of SOAD's worst, I think it is very good. Not as good as their first CD, but still an amazing album. If i could've given it 4.5 stars I would have, but seeing as I can't, it deserves a 5.
In order, from System's best to worst, the albums go:
SOAD
Steal This Album
Toxicity
Mesmerize
On this CD, John Dolmayan's drumming is at it's very best, Serj's vocals remain brilliant, Shavo as a bassist keeps his touch, and Daron Malakian's guitar playing, although not to some's taste, booms out of the speakers with such incredible force into my ears that I can't help but love it's raw power. Not to say that System are always heavy, though. Roulette, one of their only fully mellow songs, is amongst the very best on the album.
Tracklist:
Chik N Stu- 3/5: A moderately good song, but a bit tasteless melody-wise. Good vocals.
Innervision- 5/5: The first of many amazing songs on the album. Deep and powerful riff.
Bubbles- 4/5: A great song, but not amongst my favourites. Fast and quite heavy.
Boom- 5/5: The most political and meaningful song on the album, with an awesome speaking verse and a heavy chanting chorus.
Nuguns- 4/5: Great chorus, the verses are okay. Good tune.
A.D.D.- 5/5: One of the heaviest songs on the album, another political one. My personal favourite. Superb one-note riff.
Mr Jack- 5/5: A song about a paedophile. The first bit is haunting and quiet, but it descends slowly into slamming powerchords and screeching vocals from Serj and Daron.
IEAIAIO- 5/5: Babblingly fast verses, (though not as fast as "Revenga" from Mezmerize) and a great chanting chorus with a crashing drum rhythm. The build-up part where Serj spews nonsensical statements is great.
36- 2/5: It would be better if they turned it into a full length song, rather than a 46 second filler.
Pictures- 4/5: I absolutely loved this song when I first got the album, but it wears off. I still listen to it, just for the chicken call.
Highway Song- 5/5: Deep and melodical, with a brilliant drum beat. It rapidly changes from loud and heavy to soft and haunting.
F**k the System- 5/5: Just because it makes me laugh. Oh yeah, and because I love the guitar line.
Ego Brain- 5/5: A quiet and happy song that lightens up the mood of the album slightly in constrast to gloomy tracks like Mr Jack and Highway Song. It has a catchy yet slow tune.
Thetawaves- 1/5: Possibly the only song on the album I REALLY don't like. It's just not my style, it's a bit boring and similar to other songs, and the verses are rubbish. It ends MUCH too abruptly.
Roulette- 5/5: The only song on the album which is mellow whole way through. It is a great, soft acoustic riff and light lyrics that Serj croons brilliantly without ending up whining.
Streamline- 5/5: I don't know why, but I think of this song as slightly like Ego Brain, excpt longer and more of a climax to the album. The lyrics are deep and powerful, while the mellow bits make sure it doesn't go over the top. A great ending to a great album.
Free Music Review: An Album Worth Stealing (but don't steal it though) Hit: 5 Stars
A remarkable nu-metal band that have proven over the years that certainly they can conquer the music industry. I never realized that there ever was a band as great and cool out there as System of a Down. A "friend" of mine used to put System Of a Down on the phone a lot because he was really into them. I asked him what band it was and he said System of a down. As soon as I heard them, They were undescribable! It's so hard to explain how excelent they are! I only have 2 of their Cd's "Toxicity" and "Steal This Album" I'm planning on getting their first one soon. Lemme tell u a review of what I thought of this CD....Chic 'n' Stu: Hilarious song, with a catchy beat. The funny thing about it is it talks about pizza! (lol) It grows on u real fast! 10/10 Innervision: Gets calmer right after Chic 'n' Stu but still a great song to listen to. wonderful lyrics. 10/10 Bubbles: wierd song, the first time u listen to it, also wierd lyrics and thats what makes it sooo good! 9/10 Boom!: I LOVE THIS SONG! anti-war thats what system of a down is all about! I sing this song durring class 2 just like Chic 'n' Stu! 10/10 Nuguns: Not that exciting, but It has a great intro and chorus, but it just lacks something..... 8/10 A.D.D: U have to really listen to the song over and over again to really like it. But, isnt' one of my favorites. 8/10 Mr. Jack: At first I didn't listen to this song because the intro was slow, but then when I fully listened to this song I just loved it! The end is the best part! 9/10 I-E-A-I-A-I-O: Funny, Funny ,Funny! Lyrics are weird and pretty stupid, but thats what makes it so great! good rythym (wild song)but I don't know what the song means????? (o well)9/10 36: One of my favorite songs!!! Sounds like some military song. I wish it were longer though..... 10/10 Pictures: Funny song 2. I like the drum beats R real good! "ba ba ba baaa" (lol) Highway song: I don't know about that song. I kinda always skip it. Pictures and the highway song they seem to like blend. (in the end) it's like when the highway song starts u think u're still listening to pictures.(before they start singing) 7/10 F**k The system: OMG!!!! MY FAVORITE SONG! It's the best. I love bands who sing about anti-war or anti-government. This song easily gets in your head! 11/10 Ego Brain: A slow song to catch your breath from all the other songs. But the chorus makes up for it! 9/10 Thetawaves: I don't know about this song.... Lacks something it's kinda... well, BORING 7/10 (great guitar solo there though) Roulette: It's a slow song (it's ok) 8/10 Streamline: I like the Chorus a lot, the guitar solo in there is pretty cool there 2! 9/10 Well there u have it, a review of this CD. I have never regreted buying this CD. After listening to them I've learned to love them after listeing to one song, I was hooked ("chop Suey" "TOXICITY") Now whnever they have a new CD out, I don't have to listen to samples I know it's going to be a cool CD. So why don't u go out and pick a copy of this CD. And while your at it make sure to buy "Toxicity" (and "System of a Down" I hear it's a great album 2!) HOPE U ENJOY!
