About 2 years ago, System Of A Down broke down the walls between nu-metal and heavy metal with the release of "Toxicity". Prior to this album, they were viewed as another Korn-come-lately. "Toxicity" changed all of that for good by maintaining their dreadlocked & "disenfranchised" fans or yore and adding on former metal non-believers. It seemed as if, for one moment in time, those of us who grew up on real metal like Iron Maiden and Slayer and the mallrats had found a band we could all agree on."Steal This Album" is a collection of tracks from the first 2 albums' sessions that "couldn't make the cut" that have been leaked onto the internet and the band decided to release the songs in an official manner for their fans. The result is a collection of 16 tracks that actually manage to best both of their studio albums combined, sounding like a brand new album altogether. Each succesive release from SOAD has embellished on what the former recording attempted to convey and continued to add to the fray. "Steal This Album" continues that tradition, borrowing some elements from their contemporaries in The Dillinger Escape Plan and Clutch and successfully furthering themselves, musically speaking, from the goth rock nu-metal hordes that they have had the unfortunate displeasure of being lumped in with. Each song on "Steal This Album" carves out its own spot on the disc very well. Songs vary from charging and aggressive (Chik N' Stu) to mid-tempo and rockin' (Inner Vision) to melodic and heartfelt (Roulette) while never failing to include their more technical musical ability and obvious Frank Zappa influence (I-E-A-I-A-I-O). The tracks are mixed in together so flawlessly and helps one build a relationship with each song individually and with the album as whole. System Of A Down have been a roaring success based on their ability to sound like System Of A Down. They are unpredictable and their range of influence shows itself as increasingly vast with each new song. And while they are very popular now, I have a feeling that they will still enjoy a wealth of die-hard fans well into the future while the Disturbed's and Mudvayne's are having trouble packing in the sports bars.
Free Music Review: Best of System Of A Down Hit: 5 Stars
All SOAD's albums are great. I like this one because every song could be a single. They're just too good. My favorite songs include: Boom! I-E-A-I-A-I-O, F**k The System, Highway Song...
1. Chic n' Stu (10/10) Great song. Nothing more. It's just a typical SOAD song that everyone has to love.
2. Innervision (9.5/10) Cool song. Kinda repetive and gets a little old, but it was a good single.
3. Bubbles (10/10) I like this song. Short, but very fun, and fast-paced.
4. Boom! (12/10) BOOM! Love this song. It's great, everyone should love this song. It's great, and the verses are intense because they're spoken. Great overall song, chorus is just crazy!
5. Nuguns (9.7/10) Pretty sickk song. Gets in your head right away. It's catchy, but just gets old after a long while.
6. A.D.D. (11/10) Awesome. Makes you go f**king crazy.
7. Mr. Jack (8/10) I'd say the slowest song on the album. Maybe. I don't like it that much. It's alright.
8. I-E-A-I-A-I-O (14/10) OOOHHH YEAH! Now here's a real SOAD song. Best song on the album. It's soo fun to sing to cuz it goes freakin fast. and the chorus is just awesome. The overall is exciting!
9. 36 (1000/10) Haha 30 sec song. Nothing more. It's pretty funny.
10. Pictures (10/10) Pretty sick. Very catchy, and good beat.
11. Highway Song (13/10) This could be a great single. I love it, especially how it goes along with Pictures. The chorus is great to sing.
12. F**k The System (1337/10) OMFG BEST F**KING SONG! IT'S CRAZY, IT'S AWESOME, IT'S FAST, AND IT'S F**KED UP! U CAN'T RESIST LISTENING TO THIS SONG!
13. Ego Brain (7/10) Not good. Even worse than Mr. Jack. It's slow, but not very likable.
14. TheTawaves (9/10) Pretty good. It's catchy, and fun to sing. The lyrics seem confusing though.
15. Roulette (10/10) Slow, and pretty sad. Simple to play on guitar. Fun to sing as well.
16. Streamline (10/10) I would say this would be the best ending song for SOAD. It's cathcy, and good tempo to it. I like the ending.
Overall, this was a very good purchase. I'd rate it 96/100. It's great, buy it!
Free Music Review: Another Masterpiece Hit: 5 Stars
Steal this Album combines alot of elements to give you 16 songs you can listen to over and over again.1) CHIC N STU: (8/10) A really great song to start a really great album. A song you can play over and over again. 2) INNERVISION: (7/10) The album version isn't as good as the radio version, but it's still a good song. Not the best on the CD, though. 3) BUBBLES: (10/10) One of my favorites on the CD. Very catchy tune, and I love when Serj begins saying: "May I remind you?" 4) BOOM: (9/10) A very polotical song SOAD just made a music video out of. News channels use it as a background song when they are showing clips of the war with Iraq. The song itself gives facts by talking, with a very catchy chorus. 5) NUGUNS: (8/10) This is a good song. Between the chorus Serj sings softly and it turns SOAD-ish around the chorus. 6) A.D.D: (10/10) VERY catchy and dark song. The lyrics are very well written aswell. One of my favorites on the album. 7) MR JACK: (9/10) A creative song with Daron singing partly in it. 8) IEAIAEO: (10/10) This was the song that made me go out and buy the album. Very quirky and cool song. Especially when Serj goes "Mine Delusions Acquaintences, Bubbles Erotica etc etc" 9) 36: (6/10) Alot of loud singing. Shortest SOAD song, lasting only 46 seconds. 10) PICTURE: (9/10) A very catchy song. A weird, but cool chorus that you can sing along to. 11) HIGHWAY SONG: (10/10) Another great song. Serj experiments alot with his voice in this song. 12) F**K THE SYSTEM: (7/10) A goofy song which has absolutely no meaning. Fun to listen to, with a catchy chorus. 13) EGO BRAIN: (9/10) Great guitar work in this song; nice chorus 14) THETAWAVES: (10/10) A very fast-pace, catchy song. 15) ROULETTE: (510) I don't really like this song because the chorus is way to repetative and by the end of the song you are bored of hearing the same 3 or 4 lines. Nice music work in this song though. 16) STREAMLINE: (10/10) A very dramatic song used in the Scorpion King soundtrack. Amazing music work here. One of the best songs on the album. Overall, Steal this Album! offers you a new type of System of a Down which you haven't really heard before in there other albums. Go out and buy this amazing CD! =D
Free Music Review: Steal It.(No really don't)! Hit: 5 Stars
This is my second review for this CD. I have decided to rewrite it because now I am more understanding of this album and I have my new alias. These songs are far from "B-sides" as many like to call it and could have had made it to Toxicity. The songs are all mostly good with the exception of a few(36 and Pictures). Here is my review of the songs: Chic 'N' Stu-Pretty funny song. I usually skip it though when the CD is playing. 4 stars. Innervisions-Really awsome song. Normal SOAD. I think it's the first single but that's just word of mouth. Great drumming in the begining. 5 stars. Bubbles-This song is really fast paced and could be compared to Science or Shimmy from Toxicity. Great guitar work! 5 stars. Boom!-Really political like P.L.U.C.K. or Prision Song from the previous two albums. Starts of with Serj just talking in like a kind of chant-like speech then it blasts into the normal song. 5 stars. Nuguns-This song is very catchy but not the best on the album. 4 stars.A.D.D.-Insightful lyrics about war. Really cool chorus. 5 stars. Mr.Jack-Slowest song on the album(like Spiders and Aerials)but at the end it gets really fast and heavy. I really like the very last words they say! 5 stars. I-E-A-I-A-I-O-This song is my fvaorite on the whole CD! The chrous is great. Kind of like a religious chant. 5 stars. 36-46 seconds of okay music. 3 stars. Pictures-Just runs together with 36. 3 stars. Highway Song-My second favorite song. Great chrous as well. Awsome drumming in the begining. 5 stars. !@#* the System-Funny. Not really any lyrics besides the title. 5 stars. EgoBrains-Starts out acoustic. Interesting lyrics but not the best. 4 stars Thetawaves-Third favorite. "All rise". 5 stars. Roulette-Awsome acoustic song. Tied with IEAIAIO for my favorite song. Awsome lyrics to go along with cool music. 5 stars. Steamline-Not much to say about this song. 4 stars. This CD will be good for any fan of SOAD. Do not buy this if you are just getting into SOAD. I would suggest first getting Toxicity then the self-titled debut then this. THis CD has it's low pionts but is still very good!
Free Music Review: Strange?Yes,but amazing Hit: 5 Stars
First of let me warn you System will not be touring for this album(let us all take a second and mourn). This is a really good CD. It's not as good as Toxicity but it's better than the self-titled debut. Some of the songs are a lot eaisier to figure out but some are just plain wierd(Chic'N'Stu) but who ever said weird was a bad thing. Chic'N'Stu-The strangest song I've ever heard. Serj keeps going on about pizza. " Pizza Pizza Pie ". But who knows it could be about advertisment causing therapy?Innervision-Starts out good and heavy. It may be about finding what's really inside you or the government. Bubbles-Another song that starts out good and heavy. Something about a power struggle. Good song. Boom!-Very political song(about bombs.Kinda agree with them .). You can tell very easily. The song starts out with Serj(or Daron) speaking. Also talks about trying to find to find a way to peace. Nuguns-Pretty good song.Maybe about Armenian genocide? A.D.D.-Also known as American Dream Denial. Mostly about war. Mr.Jack-Awsome song!Starts out slow but is still cool. I-E-A-I-A-I-O-Best song on the CD. The song title is just the soud of the chorus. Cool screams. Serj makes this weird sound that will crack you up every single time you hear it even though it's supposed to be serious. 36-Very short song. I mean really fast. Pretty cool. It's 0:46 seconds long. about telivision. Pictures-Pretty Mid-Eastern sounding. Serj goes " Ba Ba Ba Baa". What does it mean? Highway Song-Second best on album. Kinda slow in begining. **** the System- Awsome song. Can't write out song title not aloud. Serj again is making insane noises. Ego Brain-Starts out acoustic. Pretty cool Thetawaves-Really cool song. Pretty fast singing. Roulette-Increadable! All of it is just acoustic guitar with vocals. Really cool meaning. Makes you want it never to stop.I'm serious this song is breathtaking. Streamline-Was on Scorpion King Soundtrack. Pretty cool, nothing to brag about. This is an awsome CD. Go out and buy it if you want something to hold you of until the new one comes out. Keep on rocking.
