Free Music Review: Ooooooohhh...How TLC Got Started! (4.5 stars)
Hit: 5 Stars

Combining the seductive prowess of T-boz, abundant sass of Left-Eye, and pervasive sexiness of Chilli, Laface formed one of the most successful and ecletic groups in TLC. From 1992 to 2000, they were the ultimate girl group, recording three multi-platinum albums, a host of hit records, and attaining millions of fans around the world. It all started with their eponymous debut. It turned out FOUR mega-hits ("Aint Too Proud To Beg", "Hat 2 Da Back", "What About Your Friends", "Baby-Baby-Baby") and, in the process, rose them to superstar success overnight.

As with any successful record, the hits are the highlights, but album tracks are almost always just as good, if not better, than the singles. And this holds true for Ooh...On The TLC Tip as well. My favorites include: "Das Da Way We Like 'Em" (the only track in their entire career which features the whole trio rapping), "Somethin You Wanna Know" (a rap slow-jam showcasing Left-Eye's diabolical rapping style), "This Is How It Should Be Done", (a midtempo groove showcasing Left-Eye yet again), and "Shock Dat Monkey" (a energetic dance number similar to "Aint Too Proud To Beg").

In conclusion, TLC promoted a innocent, colorful image in the beginning. It transpired into unimaginable success, especially with the trio's distinct personalities. But bigger things were yet to come for TLC, as later releases would invoke. However, their debut is representative of humble beginnings. It is one of the most entertaining albums of the early '90s, and ranks right up there with En Vogue's Funky Divas and SWV's It's About Time as the top girl group record of 1992. That being said, you must pick up this album not only for TLC's catalog, but for nostalgia purposes as to how innocent and fun R&B music used to be.

Free Music Review: The Debut That Started It All
Hit: 5 Stars

The Girl Group phenominon of the 90's started with one group of females: TLC ( T for Tionne "T-Boz" Watkins, L for Lisa "Left-Eye" Lopes and C for Rhozanda "Chili" Thomas). They were known for their flamboyant clothes and girly personalities. Before singing sensual R&B grooves and songs about scrubs, they were a mostly hip-hop group. "...On The TLC Tip" is no doubt their most hip-hop-influenced album. The hits are instant classics: "Ain't To Proud To Beg", "What About Your Friends" and "Baby, Baby, Baby." "Hat 2 Da Back" was an underrated not-so-hit. The album itself is solid and mostly upbeat. Unlike other TLC albums, there are no ballads... just midtempo slow jams like "Something You Wanna Know" which runs right into "Baby Baby Baby." TLC were an influential group because they spoke out to the black community about issues like safe sex, judging others and violence. Other highlights include "His Story" and "Depend On Myself." It's a TLC album... so interldudes are plenty, as is the Babyface and Dallas Austin (the founder of the group and most of the songs are produced by him) production. If you are a true TLC fan you will most likely already own this album. If you are not, I'd suggest getting "CrazySexyCool" FIRST and then their debut. It's a solid record and a classic hip-hop/r&b album.

Free Music Review: TLC songs hit a nerve
Hit: 5 Stars

in me, a 30-something black woman in Ohio. The group discussed a lot of issues of race, sex, gender, class, and double standards in their songs. TLC sings a lot of things that would have been swept under the rug by this hypocritical, puritanical society such as the good U.S. of A. For their courage, they were criticized by many people.

The songs I like on their first CD are:

Ain't 2 Proud 2 Beg
What About Your Friends
Ooh, on the TLC Tip
That's the Way We Like Them
His Story(an antirape, anti-sexual harassment song)
Bad by Myself
Baby Baby Baby

TLC was one of the first hip hop groups I truly liked, bringing in fresh perspectives from a black female point of view, which has always been suppressed by this society of ours. I hope that Chilli and T-Boz reunite and do another album in Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes' memory as well as to chronicle recent events and touch upon social issues in our African American community as well as the world. I long to see them performing together soon.

Free Music Review: Great CD That Solified 5 Stars

Though this cd is more than 10 years old, that does not take away from the fact that it's still a good cd. I got this early last year, and I listened to it nonstop. TLC is really the bomb! The songs on here are really good, and you know something is really good when you like most of the songs on a cd instead of 3 or 4 of them out of 12 or more tracks. "Ain't 2 proud to beg", "that's the way we like 'em", "this is how it should be done", "what about your friends", baby, baby, baby", "something you wanna know" are such tight songs! I wish that the songs "something you wanna know", "das da way we like 'em", "this is how it should be done" were released on the radio when they first came out in 1992 because these songs are so good and tight that they were meant for radio airwaves. TLC is a very talented group with the raps from Lefteye, singing from Chilli, and deep, raspy voice from T-Boz. Trust me, this cd is one that you can still jam to.

Free Music Review: Prolly the best TLC album.!
Hit: 5 Stars

I was at first very reluctant of buying this album,I had no clue what to expect, but I had heard the songs "Baby Baby Baby" and "What about your friends." ... Alot of albums you have to listen to several times before you actual like the music, but this music stuck right away.! I miss TLC's wacky days.!Check out the album cover!!! I esp. like "Das da way we like 'em" because in that song they ALL rap.! Of course left eye is by far the best in the group, but they are all respectable rappers...The best track on this awesome debut are: "Aint 2 proud 2 beg", "Shock Dat Monkey", "Hat to da back", "Das da way we like em", "What about your friends", "This is how it should be done", and "Baby Baby Baby" .! None of the tracks are bad,but these are the best.!If you don't have a TLC album yet be SURE to buy this one first!!!
