Free Music Notes for Taboo (2003 Original Broadway Cast)Free Music Review: I can see the stars from the gutter Hit: 5 Stars
When I first heard of Taboo and saw pictures, I admit I was a bit freaked out. I was never a huge fan of Boy George during the 80s. I even had a chance to see this on Broadway before it closed, but I turned it down. On the advice of friends and the reviews here on Amazon, I figured I'd give the CD a try. I was sadly mistaken in my orignial assessment, and I judged this "book by its cover," which is the main message of the musical not to do.Taboo is a highly well written musical. All but two of the songs are orignial Boy George material. The exceptions being Do You Really Want to Hurt Me and Karma Chameleon, but they do have new arrangement that brings new life to them. The other songs are Broadway rock style with definite hints of 80s music blended in. It's definitely a fun ride. Guttersnipe is the stand-out song that mixes fun and sentimentality without over doing it. The other songs are upbeat and perfect to turn up in the car and blast with the windows open. It's only in the solo ballads where Boy George falters with his music. Stranger in this World lacks the originalty of the rest of the music and pushes on the melodramtic, and it is because of this that it stand out apart from the rest of the CD. The message of Taboo is cliche: Everyone is different and that's what makes the world great accept who you are. The music along the way to establish this message, however, is fun and definitely worth owning and playing over and over again and again.

Ever sine I was a little girl I wanted to sound just like Boy George. As I grew older I thought that I had grown out of girlish things and moved on to "real" music like "Chicago" and "Cabaret". And then one day my friend (who is a rising star in musical theater) started going on and on about how much she loved Boy George. What she made me realize, for the first time, was how theatrical his music was. I remember running out and buying my old culture club disks that I once owned again on CD and marveled at how right she was. I thought right then and there how perfect it would be if someone would just transpose his music to musical theater... And then Boy George stole my idea...Well, maybe not, but anyway I had a great idea even if he did too. The disk is wonderful - its reinvigorated not only my interest in Boy George but musical theater as well (I just bought "Voice Lessons to go Vol 1 & 2" so I can better sing along with my beloved Boy...). Boy George is such a remarkable talent and I just enjoy his work so much that I would highly recommend this disk to anyone who once (or still does) consider themselves a fan...

I absolutely LOVE this soundtrack!!!!! I got it on Saturday, August 21st at Circuit City and is my all time favorite CD right now. I know most of the songs, but I'll learn other songs like ''The Fame Game (aka Fame is What She Wanted),'' ''Talk Amongst Yourselves,'' ''Come On In From the Outside'' and ''Petrified.'' The songs I know are: ''Freak/Ode to Attention Seekers,'' ''Stranger in This World,'' ''Safe in the City,'' ''Dressed to Kill,'' ''Genocide Peroxide (aka Evil),'' ''I'll Have You All,'' ''Sexual Confusion,'' ''Guttersnipe (aka Stars From the Gutter),'' ''Do You Really Want to Hurt Me,'' ''Church of the Poison Mind/Karma Chameleon,'' ''Everything Taboo,'' ''Out of Fashion,'' ''Il Adore,''
OF COURSE, THE NUMBER 1 TABOO SONG THAT YOU CAN'T HAVE A TABOO CD
''ICH BIN
I love that song so much! In fact, it's my favorite Boy George song!
I will also learn ''Love is a Question Mark.'' I love to sing these songs in the car or to my friends in recess at school.
Free Music Review: It's criminal not to like this Hit: 5 Stars
I saw both incarnations of this show (London and Broadway) and must say it was one of the best shows around. I'm not going to say which one I thought was better because they were both amazing. The negative buzz surrounding the Broadway production was unfortunate and I'm sure had it stayed open, it would have found a growing audience. When backstage problems make the front-pages of newspapers and magazines and critics focus all their energy on putting down a show, theatre really suffers; we will end up getting generic unaffecing shows season after seaon.Enough venting: Boy George's music and lyrics are a fantasitic breathe of fresh air and deserve more accolades than they recieved. The ballads are the stand out numbers in the show and I wouldn't be surprised if they became a staple for auditioners very soon! Musically I have to make comparisons with Hedwig and Rent. Hopefully a Broadway revival is planned for the not too distant future. While we wait, buy this album (and while you're at it the London cast too) and enjoy!
Free Music Review: Genocide Peroxide Hit: 5 Stars
(4.5/5 stars) I have to say, I didn't know what to expect when I bought this cd. After listening to it, I couldn't concieve how it got such negative reviews. Maybe it was because of the visuals on stage (i never saw it on stage, so i cant speak for that) or maybe it was because it was sort of hard to relate to. Whatever it was, its sad because I think the music in this musical is just amazing. Freak/Ode to Attention seekers is yes, a bit strange. But Its so catchy and funky. My favorite songs are Dress to Kill (Short song that has this cool vibe to it) Genocide Peroxide (My personal favorite. I love it madly) Pretty Lies (Heartbreakingly beautiful)I strongly recommend this to any fan of Musicals. especially Rock Musicals Its such a unique piece of work that deserves to be in your cd player at sometime in your life. IMO, I think the broadway version is better than the London :) - Kellen Michael (seaweed_store@hotmail.com)
