Free Music Review: A masterful stroke by a much misunderstood band

I played this album at my son's birth. Spirit of Eden is one of the most important albums I will ever own. Just listen to the regal woodwind, the majestic soundscapes created by some of the greatest musicians. They are not a Commercial band. They believe in Purity, in never going with second best and standing for what you believe in. "LET THE MUSIC SPEAK", said the press release back on September 16th 1988. I would love it if people had the courage to! This album is not for the faint of heart, it rips through you when it needs to. But by "Inheritance" we see a gentle almost reverend solution to our problem..... Accept what you hear, without prejudice or favor. I will always love this album for just having the guts to be born.Free Music Review: this is the one

This is the album. Back in the 80's, there was a "Talk Talk" album that I LOVED! I remember it to be "It's My Life", which is a terrific album, but when I came back to this album, I realized that this was my cherished album by Talk Talk.
If you at all familiar with "It's My Life", please do buy this album right away. "It's My Life" is the detail painting for "Spirit of Eden". That feeling you get from the songs on "It's My Life", those feelings are refined and poured into a romantic, modern vessel of aural beauty. As I listen to it at this very moment, I wonder at its beauty.
There's a beautiful plaintive appeal to the singer's voice that the listener appreciates as s/he realizes how few vocals there are on this album.
Free Music Review: Required music for the non-masses

As many have already written this is awe-inspiring music. This album for me creates true emotional devastation while being uplifting. This is heady stuff and not easily consumed. Knowing their earlier 80s pop melodies I listened to this with horror when I first listened to this cd. For some reason I put the cd back in every now and again and my ears became clued to certain melodic phrasings that invoked incredible emotional responses. After a while the whole record did this. If you've ever felt like adding something to your collection that is different then I suggest this cd as well as their Laughing Stock album. These are both hidden treasures to most people.Free Music Review: Words fail

There are three or four albums dear to me whose music is impossible to describe in words. As a writer I depend on music for inspiration and words for clarity. But sometimes you just have to turn off your mind and let your heart "think" instead. Listen to this and squint at the lyrics in the liner notes and then don't think anymore. Just feel.Of course, if you insist upon thinking about it, the fact is that this album breaks all sorts of new pop-musical ground. You can obsess over that if you wish. Me, I don't even need to play it anymore; it's taken up permanent residence within.

the morning after I first heard this album, I rushed out to buy it. i found the last known copy in Austin, TX in a bargain bin and have never seen a copy in a record store since. honestly, nothing can prepare you for the transcendent splendor that is Spirit of Eden. every note and measure drips with meaning. if Owsley Stanley's argument about "seeing music" were ever true (as it would have been at the Acid Tests), this album proves it. Close your eyes and your mind will picture every sound. easily one of the more psychedelic offerings on LP since Sgt Peppers or Meddle. Do not wait. Buy.
