Free Music Notes for Stop Making Sense: Special New Edition (1984 Film)Free Music Review: A Classic Hit: 5 Stars
Yeah, sure, this record is a classic soundtrack/live-recording and now with more tracks from the movie this edition is even better. Having said this, Talking Heads's first live record, THE NAME OF THIS BAND IS TALKING HEADS, is infinitely better. It's much less polished than STOP MAKING SENSE, but gets down to the nitty-gritty of the early Talking Heads sound without all the theatricality and without the layer upon layer of synth-sound. If you want to hear Talking Heads the way they sounded live at small venues jamming out with red-hot intensity on their early music, THE NAME OF THIS BAND IS TALKING HEADS is the way to go. But if you're looking for their more well-known, sleek, polished and slickly produced stuff, then buy this one. Either way, you can't go wrong.
Free Music Review: Their best ever Hit: 5 Stars
Having watched the movie as a little kid, I missed the days of the Talking Heads by about 5 years. But that hasn't kept me from loving them! The fact is, I have heard almost every CD that they put out... and this is my favorite. I first owned this as a tape. But the tape broke... so I bought the CD. And PAT McKENNA OF ALBANY STOLE IT! And so I ordered it again, and now I can listed to the Talking Heads, live in concert on my way to work in the morning. The best aspects of this CD is that the songs on the CD are their best... and it is in front of a live crowd. You hear the enthusiasm of the crowd in the background which inspired Byrne to be his most creative! Out of all the Talking Heads CDs, this is the one I would buy before all the others.
Free Music Review: Awesome. Hit: 5 Stars
To Hell with Johnathan Demme...Great movie or not, (and it really is great)the music is better. This is probably the last time the Heads were truly awesome. This album seems to catch a point in time when the Heads were at their most vital and most potent. As "Stones Live at the Max" reaaly catches the Stones at their flame-throwing prime, this album catches the Heads before they became Byrne's back-up band. Not that I don't love the dance/pop stuff that follows...it's that this is really where the CBGB club stuff comes to a head, and really just explodes. This is such a good band...perhaps the best American band ever, and this album truly captures them at the peak of their art. I really miss the Heads.
Free Music Review: Greatest live cd ever Hit: 5 Stars
Some bands suck live. Some bands sound just like they do on cd. Some bands add a little extra so you know your hearing something speical. Talking Heads add a little extra and more. If you listen to Talking Head cds, you'll notice most songs are calm. This cd takes all there popular songs and makes them rocking. I love the versions of Once in a Lifetime (reason why I bought this cd), Swamp, Burning Down the House, and Take Me to the River. The only down side is the Tom Tom Club's song Genius of Love. It just seems out of place on this cd. I also own the dvd and thats pretty amazing to watch. I highly recommend this concert to any music fans out there who enjoy a band thats a little different.
Free Music Review: New Heads Soundtrack Rights Old Wrong Hit: 5 Stars
Thank God! For years, the definitive rock concert movie was misrepresented on CD by a criminally truncated soundtrack that omitted many of the most compelling performances from the film. Before this new release, for instance, if you wanted to hear David Byrne's and Tina Weymouth's deeply evocative duet "Heaven" (a version that knocks the stuffing out of the studio cut for sheer emotional sublimity), your only choice was to get the movie and cue up the VCR. Now, at last, there is a more direct route to the pure audio goosepimples that this music evokes. The disappointment that was the soundtrack album is no more. Thank you, somebody, for getting this right!
