Free Music Notes for The Name of This Band Is Talking HeadsFree Music Review: Nothing can touch this . . . Hit: 5 StarsSeriously, this is one of the all time best live recordings ever. Smoking hot band, great sound quality, tons of energy, it just doesn't get any better. And this coming from someone who doesn't usually care for live recordings.
Free Music Review: terrific document of a great live band Hit: 4 StarsThis review is based on the original vinyl release, not the CD with the the bonus tracks...
These recordings document the evolution of one of the important groups of the late '70s and '80s. There is terrific energy throughout, and the selections are well recorded. As far as the highlights, there are many. Some of the more obscure early tunes like Don't Worry About the Government and Artists Only must have been terrific live, they sure sound good on tape. The second half of the recordings document the larger touring band that was augmented with some terrific players including Bernie Worrel, Steve Scales, Busta Jones, Dolette McDonald, and last but certainly not least, Adrian Belew. For those who may be unfamiliar, Belew was a member of the early-'80 incarnation of King Crimson, and avant garde guitarists. His "experimental guitar" stylings really add some punch to live tracks like I Zimbra, Houses in Motion, and The Great Curve.
While a number of the tracks here were also featured in the terrific Stop Making Sense film, I highly recommend this recording as it does a good job of telling the "talking heads story."
Btw, another reviewer mentioned wishing there were a video document from this era. There is a professional shot video from Italy, I think, that is well worth seeking out featuring the expanded line up with Belew, Jones, and McDonald.
Free Music Review: Fantastic Hit: 5 StarsIf you are a fan of the Talking Heads, then you will not be disappointed. The audio quality is superb and the performances are remarkably passionate.
Free Music Review: Great LIVE Talking Heads Hit: 5 StarsThis CD features live concert of the Talking Heads from 1978 to 1981. Its got a great song selection and really showcases their best in concert before they reached superstardom with MTV. I like this era of the band because they still had their Eno influence and was just introducing a percussion and keyboard member. A must have for people who like concert audio.
Free Music Review: Tal..Talk...talki...talking Heads Hit: 5 StarsTalking heads are great. This is a good 2 cd set of talking heads.
