Free Music Review: Classic, classic, classic...
Hit: 5 Stars

I've waited over twenty years for this album to be released on disc. It's here and it's better than I remember it. I place this album in the all-time top 5 best live albums in the history of rock and roll. The musicianship is out of this world. Both discs are solid through and through. The previously unreleased tracks make a great thing even better.
Disc One from the 1977-1979 concerts is fantastic. I was thrilled back in 82 when I first heard the live recording of "Love- Building On Fire". And although I like the studio recording of "Memories (Can't Wait)" better, the live version is outstanding. Disc Two is my favorite of the two. I really enjoy the full sound of the eight person tour band the Heads adopted for their 1980-1981 tour. I also like disc two because I am a huge fan of Adrian Belew. Belew is phenomenal on the guitar and his presence on disc two makes it an unforgettable event. "Cities", "Houses In Motion", "Life During Wartime" standout on this disc. "Take Me To The River" is way far beyond it's time and just a pure delight.

Free Music Review: ONE OF THE GREATEST REISSUES EVER!!
Hit: 5 Stars

Thank "Heaven" all involved came to their "Sense(s)" and cooperated to rerelease this on CD! THIS IS ONE OF THE TOP FIVE BEST LIVE ALBUMS EVER MADE, period. Bob Ludwig of Gateway Mastering, Portland ME is a GENIUS! This disc, with so many added tracks taken from multiple sources, sounds SO GREAT- I saw the Heads live twice during these halcyon days, and this document captures that spirit of happiness and sheer ROCKING OUT so well, I was transported back and IT FILLS MY HEART WITH JOY! A double treat that my favorite Heads song "Mind" was added to the track list (I still have my original vinyl for comparison). "Little Creatures", if you want to hear one of the GREATEST LIVE BANDS EVER, in both its core four-member and "Big-Band" incarnations, then RUN, don't walk, to your nearest musical vendor (literally or virtually) to BUY THIS! Thank you to Warner for releasing this, thanks to Gary Stewart of Rhino for shepherding this through, and special gratitude to David/TinaChrisJerry for creating such powerful bedrock music. TALKING HEADS FOREVER!

Free Music Review: Best live album ever -- but different in parts
Hit: 5 Stars

I have to agree with Carpet: there was some fairly radical remastering done here, though most of it is fine with me. But there's some missing stuff too. In particular, on the original there was a minute-long funk-groove instrumental segueway between The Great Curve and Crosseyed and Painless that really was always one of my favorite parts of the album. It's gone now, maybe in part because they've reshuffled the tracks to reflect the original playlist from the Remain in Light tour. From someone who usually despises live recordings on General Principles, however, I'm glad to see that many agree: this is the best live album ever (far better than the Byrne-hammy Stop Making Sense), and it shows the evolution of an incredibly tight band (also perhaps the most intellectual pop/rock group ever) before their artistic demise from Speaking in Tongues forward. The copious extra tracks make this cd well worth the long wait -- Cities, Warning Sign, and the original Electricity (Drugs) stood out to me on first listen.

Free Music Review: Simply the best
Hit: 5 Stars

I hadn't heard this album since college, so I was really looking forward to hearing the new CD-release of these recordings. Well, let me tell you, since receiving these dics over a week ago, I've played them at least once a day, every day. LOUD. I've seriously come to the conclusion that this could be the best CD release of the past decade or so ... and, IMO, maybe even ever. The music the Heads perform here is so original, so melodic, and so damn tight it's mind-boggling, clearly establishing them as the best band in the world as the Seventies turned into the Eighties. From the opening beat of New Feeling, through the joyously hypnotic grooves of Psycho Killer and Once in a Lifetime, to the utterly manic pace of Crosseyed and Painless, this is spectacular rock 'n roll in every respect. Whether you're a Heads fan or not, this is an absolutely essential item to have in your music collection. It's just tremendous. I always enjoyed the Talking Heads, but I didn't realize that they were THIS good.

Free Music Review: The Talking Heads at their finest
Hit: 5 Stars

I grew up listening to this album, and it's really aggrevated me to no end that it was never availible on CD, as it was perhaps my favorite release of theirs (and they are my favorite band).

So this is long overdue, but Rhino has made up for the delay by expanding the album. I hesitate to call the new additions bonus tracks. They are not supplemental or disposable, but rather, they've been worked into the album in chronological order in keeping with the album's original concept: A Live Retrospective.

The new additions are quite welcome. While I'm not sure I need two versions of Psycho Killer on one album, the new early version Drugs is very different from the others and quite welcome. The audio quality of the remaster is excellent. It sounds as clean and clear as a studio release.

Really, this release is indespensible for Talking Heads fans at least as much so as Stop Making Sense. It's as great as remembered, and it's great to have it once again.
