Free Music Notes for The Name of This Band is Talking HeadsFree Music Review: execllent Hit: 5 Stars
Finally released and sounding fantastic. The newly added songs are a bit quirky but after a minute they become quite hypnotic. Disc 2 is apparently the set list for the Remain in Light tour which was quite amazing. They realized that the newer stuff needed whatever augmentation was available and thank goodness what was available was the best.
I bought the cd on 8/27/04 which was the date of the last 3 tracks in Central Park NYC 1980, which was when I first saw them live 24 years earlier....
Free Music Review: Metamorphosis in front of your ears! Hit: 5 Stars
An amazingly unique live album in that it takes the listener over about a five-year span of the band's live performances, revealing an almost unprecedented maturation in songwriting and musicianship -- and all before they hit their stride with "Speaking in Tongues" and the live album (one performance) "Stop Making Sense"!! It's just so sad and a shame that the band ending up growing so much that they broke away from each other. David Byrne is certainly talented, but Talking Heads was his peak.
Free Music Review: "I hate people when they're not polite..." Hit: 5 Stars
The people have spoken. All well-deserved 4/5 star reviews. The biggest gripe seems to be over the abbreviated "Cross Eyed". Given the expanded package, it's a pretty minor gripe. This is not a remastered rip-off, nor some jive "greatest hits live". Absolutely essential for one and all: TH newbies and long-time fans needing to upgrade the cassette or vinyl. Never heard TH's minimalist stew of post-punk pop and Afro-funk? One listen to TNOTBITH, you'll be a fan.
Free Music Review: Finally! Hit: 5 Stars
The album all Tallking Heads fans have been clamoring for (myself included, see my review for the lame box set, 'Once in a Lifetime'). The sound is amazing. The extra tracks are fantastic (so happy to find the bootleg live ep included). Disc 2 as the whole "Remain in Light" touring set list is a nice touch.
In short, my wishes have been answered. This moves to the front of the essential recordings list for the Talking Heads. Just say yes!
Free Music Review: Discover the Talking Heads Hit: 5 Stars
About an hour before my radio show at WKNH in 1984 I was pulling records for my show and came across a very tattered, warn, and used copy of this album. At this time, I owned Speaking in Tongues and Stop Making Sense. The first track I listened to was Building on Fire and after that, there was NO turning back.... I have listened to this album DOZENS of times and NEVER ceases to amaze me.... The expanded version is an 11 out of 10. GET IT.
