Free Music Notes for TarzanFree Music Review: Great CD for a great Disney movie Hit: 5 StarsOne thing I've come to realize: if a movie really works for you, chances are that the music soundtrack had a lot to do with it. And so it was for me and Disney's version of Tarzan. Unlike another Disney movie with similar themes about growing up that didn't work as well for me (i.e. The Lion King), Tarzan hooked me in immediately, largely because of Phil Collins' music.
I especially appreciated the musical departure from other Disney movies where the main characters sing the songs. In Tarzan, Collins' melodic voice serves as a third-person narrator, and is just so much more effective at conveying mood, while propelling the plot. Had the film followed the conventional Disney formula of character-singing, this would have turned into a real stinker, real fast.
My favorite song in the movie is "Son of Man" not only because of its catchy pop tune and insightful lyrics, but because the song so perfectly matches the sequence of Tarzan growing from a boy into manhood -- it's just a wonderful part of the entire film.
My only regret is that the songs are so short. Although Collins offers two versions of each song (with the exception of "Son of Man") on the CD, it would have been nice to hear some extended versions of the songs. Still, this is a great CD to have if you enjoyed the film.
Free Music Review: You seem to have no idea Hit: 5 StarsPhil Collins SUCKS! This is a phrase i commonly hear when i tell people im a phil collins fan. Most fools have no idea that phil collins career isnt just a career Its a LEGACY. This man is so under appreciated for his skills it amazes me.
Phil starting out as a drummer for Genesis, when original lead singer Peter Gabriel (ALSO AMAZING) left he stepped up to the microphone and continued to be drummer during CONCERTS, and Studio.
Face Value showed as all the phil wasn't just a drummer and singer, but an independent song writer from Tony Banks, and Mike Rutherford (Genesis members).
Phil was a god in the 80's, then when the 90's came around people feel out of favor with the legend.
With Tarzan you can see that its the exact same thing.
So i say how can u critizce phil who stayed with Genesis for 26 years, and ran solo career, composed his music with a 40 piece big band (Phil Collins Big Band - Hot night in Paris), was also a TV star (Miami Vice).
See if u can do this within a decade
Free Music Review: Yeesh Hit: 2 StarsWhile other artists like Brian May and Peter Gabriel have tackled serious and very good soundtracks (The Road Warrior, Passion) Phil Collins has turned out a silly and largly forgettable collaboration with Mark Marcina. Of cource its for a Disney film (an apparent indication of how low Phil can go).
Free Music Review: Phil & The Ape Man Hit: 4 Stars1999's "Tarzan" movie soundrack isn't really a "proper" Phil Collins album, per se, but Phil does contribute some wonderful tunes to the soundtrack, as well as some killer tribal rhythms & beats that perfectly fit this animated Disney hit about the legendary ape man. Of course there's the gorgeous "You'll Be In My Heart," for which Phil won his well-deserved Oscar for Best Song, but also the equally-powerful "Two Worlds," the fun "Trashin' The Camp," and the skillful pop of "Son Of Man" and "Strangers Like Me." There's also incredible orchestral music that makes up the album's second-half, written by Mark Mancina, which Phil contributes drums to.Okay, so I could've done without NSync's guest duet with Phil on the second version of "Trashin' The Camp," but otherwise, this is a marvelous soundtrack album, with some classic Phil Collins music. The "Tarzan" movie soundtrack is a very swingin' disc in my book.
Free Music Review: An Exuberant Tarzan-like "Yell" For this WONDERFUL CD! Hit: 5 StarsThis CD is already deep in my heart, and I just heard it for the first time last night! If you like Phil Collins, if you like beautiful music, beautiful Broadway show style music (not the "bang-bang" noise of so much of today's music) then you will go out of your mind over this CD. Get it, and sit back and have your spirits lifted and your heart suffused with loving feelings.
