Free Music Notes for Pytor Illych Tchaikovsky: The Nutcracker - Complete BalletFree Music Review: Tchaikovsky's Fairy Tale Ballet Hit: 5 Stars
I have always been a devotee of Tchaikovsky, and The Nutcracker is one of my favorite pieces. Having owned or listened to many different recordings of this work, I feel I can make the following statement: Valery Gergiev and the Kirov Orchestra love The Nutcracker. It is necessary only to hear the first few notes of the opening overture to come to this conclusion. Listening to gifted musicians play beautiful music is a wonderful experience. Listening to the Kirov Orchestra perform this work with such love and reverence transcends any experience of the senses- you feel the performance. I found this performance to be profoundly moving, but not because of the music itself, although the music is gloriously imaginative- I was moved by the obvious devotion of the orchestra members to the work and to the composer. The Kirov obviously feel an ownership of this piece, and a responsibility to perform it as no other orchestra can. They succeed brilliantly here.
Free Music Review: Simply the best! Hit: 5 Stars
Never before has the complete Nutcracker ballet been presented on one cd. Right there, is a perfect reason to buy this right away. Beyond that, you're sure to be amazed as I was at the sound quality of this recording. I was astonished at how live the recording sounded. My mouth hung agape through most of my first listen (no kidding)! It's as if I was trasported into a great hall hearing the clarity, wieght and purity of the music in person. Astounding!Further, the entire piece seems to have been imbued with some new life force that makes it demand your attention. It's more than the clarity of sound, it's the soul and love behind it. You can hear that, and it makes an indellible impression! If you love the ballet, music in general or are an audiophile, you simply can't be without this astonishing recording. Pop it in the cd player and prepare to experience first hand some real life, Christmas magic!
Free Music Review: Definitive recording of Nutcracker Hit: 5 Stars
This recording presents Nutcracker, Gergiev, and his Kirov band all at their very best, in what has to be the best conducting of this score since or perhaps really equal to the likes of Ormandy, Dorati, Mravinsky, or Desormiere, and some of these predecessors did not record it complete. The tempi, as opposed to the comfortable tempi that so many of us are used to, from hearing them in shopping mall renditions, are right. And in this case, there is never any hint of anything mechanical or pushed about how they are delivered. The grand Pas De Deux is as red-blooded, purple, and grandiose as anyone would want, at its climax, and the whole performance is effervescent with color and rhythmic life. Recommended without hesitation, especially to anyone who needs to hear this music afresh, or may be not aware they do, especially this time of year. Five stars.

Free Music Review: Transforming - magical - phenomenal Hit: 5 Stars
There really is no need to add another glowing review of this performance. But I cannot resist. In fact, I cannot not gush. It must be awful to get to such a jaded point that a person can sincerely say what some have said in panning this recording. They are deeply unhappy with something in their lives if they cannot be deeply and wonderfully affected by this orchestra. Listen to the pas de deux. It has never been played as beautifully. Never. Maestro Gergeiv and the Kirov Orchestra are a magic carpet soaring with a magnificence that leaves me awestruck. This recording will take you to an emotional high that cannot be described. It must be experienced. If you love the Nutcracker and have not heard this recording, you must. If it's too fast for en pointe, then stretch yourself on a comfy couch, close your eyes and go to heaven.
