Free Music Review: A Great Recording Hit: 5 Stars
I bought this CD when my older child participated on her first Nutcracker production. It was a great way to help her familiarize with the music, and it was fun for the grown-ups to listen to, too. Now I have two kids in the Nutcracker production, we use this CD for practice sessions at home. Surprisingly enough, the tempo is not so fast that they cannot dance to it.
If you are looking for a Nutcracker CD to buy, I'd highly recommend this one. This CD delivers the magical feeling that the Nutcracker gives on stage.
Free Music Review: THIS NUTCRACKER IS NOT BORING!! Hit: 5 Stars
Gergiev must be applauded for not being too slow in his interpretation of this overplayed chestnut. Not being a ballet dancer, I can only appreciate this work in a musical manner, as I love Tchaikovsky's music! I have OD'd on the Suite No.1 and the remaining music as conducted by Gergiev sounds fantastic! The sound quality is luminous (very upfront) and briliant. You are swept up in the vortex of it all and it never lets go. The softer sections are very affecting and not at all rushed. Kudos for freshening up this old favorite!
Free Music Review: An impressive recording and performance! Hit: 5 Stars
First of all to manage to fit all the the ballet on one CD is something of an engineering marvel. Second the performers have this music in their blood and it shows it the performance. It is a curiousity that Phillips released this as a single CD, they could also do it with the recording done by Antal Dorati and the Concertgebouw Orchestra, which clocks in at just under 80 minutes. I think that the Gergiev recording is the most exciting recording of the work yet released. A must for any Nutcracker fan.
Free Music Review: Wow! Hit: 5 Stars
This is one of those rare recordings where a first-rate performance of a great work has been captured with stunning sound quality. Usually, the better the performance, the worse the recording. That's not the case here. As others have noted in their reviews, the performance is filled with emotion and soul. The minimal mike recording captures all the orchestral colors and the acoustics of the concert hall. The instruments just sound right, and the dynamics will knock your socks off.
