Free Music Notes for Tenacious D The Pick of Destiny

Free Music Review: The Warp & Woof of Heavy Metal!
Hit: 5 Stars

I'm an unapologetic Metal Head (Have nearly every Iron Maiden CD! Love Dio, Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Malmsteen, Helloween, etc.), and have to say that Tenacious D captures the heart of Heavy Metal in short, succinct masterpieces. I know the CD is a "soundtrack" but the music could definitely be incorporated into a Rock Opera on the order of The Rocky Horror Picture Show. The movie wasn't great, but the music more than makes up for it, no matter how short some of the songs are.

Especially cool:
Kickapoo -- Killer song. The riffs are driving, even the acoustical ones!
Classico -- Sweet little 1 minute song comprised of Bach and Mozart tunes. It's good to see honors paid to the only form of music that's better and rocks the hardest: Baroque/Classical.
Beelzeboss -- Worth the price of the album, IMHO. It has all the components for a mini-opera.

I grant that there's a LOT of edgy and offensive language, but if you can handle the F bombs then the experience will pay off in spades.

Musically satisfying. Get it!

Free Music Review: don't buy it thinking it's a new album
Hit: 5 Stars

i originally gave it a rating of four stars because it is short, but then i changed it to five instead... it's not a new album, but an accompaniment to a great movie. the music rocks just as much as the first album. if you like the d then you should buy this soundtrack. it has new material as well as old favs from the HBO episodes that never were recorded in a studio. so... if you like the movie, this wouldn't be a bad addition to your collection.

also, i don't see where the editorial review comes off as saying the d is a fake band. they are most definietly real... they play their own instruments, they sing, they write their own songs, they tour [more than once], and i've seen them live. they just so happened to be in a movie and have a tv miniseries. the monkees are considered a real band and they didn't even write their own songs. so... they're real - i just had to get that off my back.

Free Music Review: Down with "Nay Sayers"
Hit: 5 Stars

This disk and the Movie rocks!! My socks were blown off the continent. As far as this album is concerned, think of it as mini rock opera. With guest appearances by Meat Loaf and Dio and David Grohl at the kit, it just totally rocks. Obviously, the first album is a classic and difficult to top, but this one certainly brings great moments to the table. Also consider that the first album had comedic skits which served as filler. The D could've repeated verses and chorus to give you nay sayers the song length you desire, but that is not their style. This is the D for God's sake, and they defy any formula but their own. Where are the true D faithful and why haven't they risen to quash the horrific reviews of those too inane to see beyond the limits of their pop horizons. Nay to you, nay sayers. The D rules!!

Free Music Review: A must-have for "D" fans, and/or fans of the movie...
Hit: 5 Stars

First off, I have yet to see The Pick of Destiny in the theaters, but if you've seen it (and enjoyed it), this CD is a great addition to your collection - if you're into collecting soundtracks.

If you're a Tenacious D fan, this CD will immediately be right up there with their first, self-titled album.

Right from the beginning of the CD, "Kickapoo" has JB singing a great 'story,' to include cameos by Meatloaf, and his royal highness, Dio.

All in all, this is a great CD with perhaps 1 flawed song (I'm not a fan of "Baby,"). If you're into The D, you need to get it. If you're not into Jack Black and Kyle Gass music and comedy, you might just want to let this one pass you by.

Free Music Review: BLASPHEMY!
Hit: 5 Stars

All you nay-sayers out there REPENT!! Long live the D! This does not deserve the bashing some of you are giving it, because this album is music from beginning to end, unlike their debut album with all the comedy filler that everyone keeps comparing it too. 15 tracks, all of them songs, so what the hell is everyone crying about? I have been listening to this album for 3 straight days now on my drive to and from work (30 minutes each way) and it's getting better and better. So every nay-sayer out there....sit in your tower and SHUT THE HELL UP! You try to create something better! By the way, I am a much better D-ciple than Mike Weisskopf. ROCK ON D!!
