Free Music Notes for Tenacious D The Pick of DestinyFree Music Review: a sweet SOUNDTRACK Hit: 4 Stars
Man people are making way too big a deal about this cd not being long enough and a "disappointment." First off, most of the songs will grow more and more on you each time that you listen to them. I think with a few good listens you will begin singing along just as we all did with the first album. Secondly, the CD is a SOUNDTRACK and while you could consider it the D's second album, it's main purpose is still to be a soundtrack. That being said, while some of the songs might not be that good to some of us now, when they are being played in the movie up on the big screen with Jack and Kyle performing those actions in the lyrics of the songs, I would imagine the songs will be pretty awesome. D fans- Don't listen to all the negative nancys, this is a great buy especially now at $9.99.
Free Music Review: See this for what it is Hit: 4 Stars
Folks, maybe you're missing the point of what this is: a soundtrack to a comedy movie. These tracks are absolutely perfect for a Tenacious D release. Excellent, solid rock (touched with tasteful mock metal) spans the whole album, and Kyle shows off his chops (listen to his riffage on 'The Metal') and Jables continues to deliver solid, unique comedy and a knack for touching the boundaries of a "real" band vocalist. Grohl fits perfectly in his role behind the drums, and these songs deserve recognition for what they are: well-polished comedy tracks smart enough to satisfy discerning long-time fans (would have liked a studio 'Sasquatch', though, that's for sure) as well as casual fans who love comedy and music.
Free Music Review: Great soundtrack. Hit: 4 Stars
And thats just what it is, a soundtrack. If you're buying this CD expecting a full blown album comparable to the D's first CD, you will most likely be disappointed.
While listening to this album I couldn't help but feel that the songs were void of the same glory and rockingness that the first album had. I really don't feel that anything in the soundtrack is comparable to the D's actual music, and its obvious that this is, after all, just a soundtrack to a movie and not an actual album.
Fun yes, but I hope that Jack and Kyle decide to release a true second album sometime in the future.
Free Music Review: JB couldn't release anything short of kickass, but not enough music here! Hit: 4 Stars
These songs all rock the house down, but if i had to guess, i would say it took Jack and Kyle no more than a couple months to put this stuff together. Yes, we are certainly indulged with Jack's amazingly rhythmic freestyle skat; they even show off with a short sample of their harmonic a cappela abilities, but there just isn't enough. I mean c'mon TD you've had like 4 years of downtime. Nevertheless, these guys know how to make fun of rock better than anyone and this album is a must-have for anyone who is a fan.
Free Music Review: Pretty impressive Hit: 4 Stars
Yeah, the CD seemed a bit short, but what's there is very good. Some songs didn't grab me the first time around, but I'm sure I will enjoy them when they're put into context with the movie (this was the case for me with "Lee" and "Wonderboy" from the first album- once I saw the video and story, I LOVE the songs now). I only wish there was more more vocal harmony and more KG in general.
