Free Music Review: Truly fueled by the Dark One

I've been jonesin' for The D's new album for a long time. I scored "Tenacious D The Pick of Destiny" a day early because I pre-ordered it from their website along with a nifty t-shirt, tarot cards, a mini-poster and a plastic replica of the Pick of Destiny itself! I am a D-ciple and it was a birthday gift for my twin sister. This soundtrack makes me want to see the movie even more so.
The album is great. It's good. It rocks your socks off. The D is the greatest band on Earth. The album is filled to the brim with explicit lyrics. Jack Black likes to use the "F word" but it works. It wouldn't be The D without the F-bomb tossed around every once in awhile. I don't mind because I don't get offended and abhor censorship.
JB and KG rule this album as if they are truly fueled by the Satan. The opening track, "Kickapoo," has vocals by Jack Black, Meat Loaf and Ronnie James Dio! "Classico" is a different take on a classic Tenacious D song. Anyone familiar with "Tenacious D - The Complete Master Works" (2003) will know what I am talking about. "Baby" is a nice ballad with JB's vocals morphing into a baby cry at the end, which made me laugh out loud. JB shows his vocal talent in the screaming, screeching, singing "Master Exploder." The feel-good song of the album, "Papagenu (He's My Sassafrass)," is catchy and you cannot turn it off. The song makes you want to leap around in green meadows. "Beelzeboss (The Final Showdown)" is the mother of all songs, with JB and KG rocking off against the Satan.
The album flows from one track to another, displaying all manners of rock and comedy in the epic style only The D can achieve with acoustic guitars, flutes, spoken word, heavy metal and sweeping vocals. The one thing that sours me about this album is that it is only 34 minutes long. It's too short and makes the listener crave more.
I was never a big fan of metal, but The D changed that. I'm a metal fiend now. I look forward to hearing live performances of these songs on November 22, 2006, the day that the movie "Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny" is released in theatres. Why you ask? Because I am seeing The D live on that day here in Denver! I believe JB will forgive the crowd for seeing The D perform instead of seeing the movie.
