Free Music Review: Great Return
Hit: 5 Stars

New Testament album. Awesome. Their first real "thrashy" album since Practice What You Preach im my opinion. Not much to say other than if you liked their 80's material, then you will like this. Formation of Damnation combines the speed of their early albums (Legacy) and the production of newer albums (Gathering). Paul Bostaph (ex-Slayer) sits in for the drums on this record and, of course, does a stellar job. Funny, because the last Testament album had Dave Lombardo of Slayer on drums. Testament knows how to pick `em well! Anyway, Testament did not reinvent themselves in any way shape or form. However, they did create a great new collection of heavy thrash tunes that are just as enjoyable as their old and newer material. I recommend this album to fans of both the older and newer material by the band. Great record.

P.S. You would have never guessed that Chuck Billy had throat cancer. He sounds like he always did. Loud and proud. Buy this record.

Free Music Review: Extension of The Ritual
Hit: 5 Stars

Long-time Testament fan. I *really* expected this album to be in the vein of The Gathering. Surprisingly, Testament chose to rekindle the old sound that made them so famous. TFOD is classic-sounding, but misses the crunch and brutality of The Gathering (probably tuned guitars back up to E or E-flat). Nonetheless, after a few listens, I started to hear more and more of that sound from The Ritual. Melody in favor of speed, and some great vocal extensions (yes, we now all know that Chuck has 3 vocal styles).

Also missing is a "power ballad" (hate using that phrase). If you're going to bring back old-school thrash, why not tack on a ballad like Return to Serenity? Alex writes his best solos in that environment!

Bottom line - the album has really grown on me. I like every song. Great lyrics, and awesome production. Support your favorite bands. Buy the album so they are encouraged and continue to produce great music.

Free Music Review: Brutal!!
Hit: 5 Stars

This album is a headbangers gem!!! It features the return of Alex Skolnic and Greg Christian, whose guitar and bass work make this album soar with feroricity!! I've been a Testament fan since the 1989 Practice What You Preach album, and these guys never cease to amaze me. This band has been loyal to it's fans, and has never sold out!! If nothing else each album they come out with keeps getting heavier, and better!! Metallica should take some hints from these guys! This album reminds me of earlier work such as Pwyp and the New Order, and recent work such as The 1999 album The Gathering. Chuck Billy's voice never sounded better, and it's a good thing he won his battle with cancer. This is a brutal thrash metal album not for the faint of heart. The track that stands out for me is The Evil Has Landed, which tells of the horrifying events of 9\11. This album is highly recommended for fans of thrash metal. Thanks Teastament for keeping real metal alive!!

Free Music Review: back to heavy weight form, the return of the old school thrash
Hit: 5 Stars

testament has been threw many stages ,band members and high's & low's.I haven't heard this side of testament in years.some people say old rehashed riffs where? Sure you can hear part that will remind you of old cd's a little practice,or low or new order.but this cd's is fresh and new it's friggin heavy.there are only a couple other band that are still this good slayer & exodus.all other old school thrash bands have retired or are up aginist the rope fighting for their lives.this cd is pure testament of old.4/5 of the original members are back except louie/so they got Paul Bostoph ex( forbidden, slayer, exodus and even testament) this man can beat down most drummer in minutes he filled Dave lombardo and Tom hunting shoes come to think of it I think of it he filled in for John tempesta ,too..they couldn't have picked a better drummer.bottom line this is the best thrash cd in a long time and they have the chops and they'll prove it!

Free Music Review: Metal Album fof the Year,,,2008
Hit: 5 Stars

Admittedly, I had forgotten about these guys, even having 6 Testament CD's in my collection and having had the pleasure of seeing them at a Mosters of Rock Festival in Germany in '93/'94.
From hearing some samples, I knew FORMATION was going to be a good CD however, when I popped it in I was blown away right from the beginning. This CD is a rush, turn it to 10 and hold on. Song for song it is as good if not better than The Gathering and is a much needed kick in the pants for today's metal were everyone sounds so similar and each band's songs sound the same throughout their the albums.
I am glad these guys are back and I cannot wait to see them on the METAL MASTERS Tour this summer. Hopefully they will finally get the recognition they deserve.
If anyone can tell me other new albums that are as good as this or better, please let me know as I always need to hear new music.
