Free Music Review: This Has It All
Hit: 5 Stars

In a previous review, someone mentioned that Testament was left out of the thrash "big four" (Megadeth, Slayer, Metallica, and Anthrax) even though they've been around since the beginning of the genre.

"The Formation of Damnation" is a reminder of why the list should be a "big five." They not only helped to write that musical blueprint, but are still fine-tuning it today.

Also, is there a more criminally underrated voice in metal than Chuck Billy? In an era where nearly every new thrash band has a singer that sounds like Cookie Monster, Chuck is a reminder that you can growl with personality and soul.

Finally, If you go to guitarworld.com, you can see a recent video interview with Alex Skolnick that is well worth the time for any Testament fan to watch. Great stories about Testament's early days in the Bay area scene, and how they all got back together for this record.

Free Music Review: Unlike Metallicas new cd this one rocks
Hit: 5 Stars

I never thought I see the day when I would be writing a review praising Testament over Metallica. I liked Testament back in the days, but I loved Metallica almost as much as Slayer, but Metallica lost it, they sold out, I just received my Testament cd from amazon and I was amazed, these guys still know how to rock, they're not washed up like our boys that can't live up to their name. This is Metal at it's finest, I caught these guys at the Metal Masters tour and I would pay to see them again and again. After hearing some of the new Metallica tracks on Sirius, I would not take "Death" for free, sorry boys it's time to hang up the gloves. Testaments new cd should be call The formation of Domination instead, cause they dominate with Damnation. I thought after Pantera the only survivors in Metal were Slayer, but Testament has made a believer out of me. They sure practiced what they preached

Free Music Review: Damnation is upon you
Hit: 5 Stars

From the beginning to the end this album just rocks. After hearing Low, The Gathering and now Formation of Damnation, this is the New Testament that we have waited for. Keeping to the true style of the Bay Area Thrash this band has only progressed themselves to a higher level. From Thrash albums (NWO, PWYP) the ritual is a good listen but kinda lost me through the sound of trying to sound radio friendly. Then came Return to the Apocalyptic City, a refreshing live mini album that made me wait in suspense for Low. Demondogs! They did what alot of other bands from their era tried to do, keep it heavy at a level that would please the fans. Above and beyond the call, Testament have made a new refreshing start with TFOD, hopefully we don't have to wait 9 years for the follow up. Play on Legion of the Dead!!

Free Music Review: Whats old is new again.
Hit: 5 Stars

I won't go into great detail except to say this disc is perfection. It is like seeing an old friend again from the first to last song. Fans know the story behind Chuck Billy and his ailments and it is amazing he still keeps on today. To have Skolnick back in the band makes this even more of a treat. Like Chucks other project, Dublin Death Patrol, this is pure Bay-area sound like it was and should be. The new cookie cutter metal bands of today (Lamb of God, Hatebreed, Killswitch and the other 10,000 that sound JUST LIKE THEM!) need to look at these icons and see how it is supposed to be done. Tried and true, the sound remains the same when it comes to Testament. Sample the title track and see for yourself...this IS the mandatory CD release for 2008 for any purveyor of metal.

Free Music Review: Testament back with a vengeance
Hit: 5 Stars

Back in the day at end of the 80s when thrash metal was fashionable, Testament were an underdog band, considered a good band, though no match for the top three Metallica, Megadeth and Slayer.
Fast forward to 2008 and while Megadeth is basically the Dave Mustaine band living off past glories with a mercenary lineup and Metallica is struggling to come out with an album that wont be as bad as St anger, Testament releases a classic as relevant as master of puppets or RIP; I had the opportunity to see Testament live last May and they were totally top form, the songs from this new album were instant classics, I was blown away!! Basically they got the original lineup back and added former drummer Paul Bostaph, the result is a masterpiece of thrash metal!!! It's really that good.
