To label a metal album generic implies there are a few stand out moments that capture the spirit a once great band had and may warrant a listen in its entirety. Metallica's And Justice for All is such an album. Practice What You Preach is inspired rock, which equates to horrible metal. I attempted this album three times: I couldn't get past the fourth track once. This album represents what's wrong with modern metal. It follows a weak formula with no surprises. It plays hard, semi fast, and makes use of techniques to satisfy listeners' expectations of what "good" metal is supposed to sound like. It doesn't strive for composition and transcendence. Nor does it have any trace of the spirit expressed in The Legacy.
