Having seen the film I can say that Jerry Goldsmith's score is one of the most perfect marriages between music and imagery that I have experienced in a long while. Goldsmith has always been the best composer around for muscle man flicks like these but he has taken his usual brass and percussion-driven ostinatos and infused them with a mythic sense that is simultaneously brutish, terrifying, heroic and grand. More than just a score... I would rather, tend to call this a work... and we've been given virtually the complete score (hooray, Aarese Sarabande!). For the record, "The Fire Dragon" cue is the most mind-blowingly relentless battle music I know of from any film.Free Music Review: One of Goldsmith's best

This is definitely one of Jerry Goldsmith's finest efforts in the entire decade. It combines all the best elements of "The Mummy", "Mulan" and "Air Force One" into one huge symphonic masterpiece. The theme is so glorious and brilliant that I have to listen to it about ten times before listening to the rest of the CD. This score combines powerful orchestrations, chorus and ethnic instruments into one of the most rousing pieces of music I've ever heard. The battle music is also brilliantly constructed, with a lot of motifs and themes. I CAN`T GET ENOUGH OF THIS CD! PLEASE! SOMEBODY HELP ME! Goldsmith rules!Free Music Review: Thrilling!

Jerry Goldsmith is undeniably one of the greatest film composers there has ever been! I love his thrilling, action-packed and inspiring music in films such as "The Edge" and "L.A. Confidential." Here has creates a thrilling masterpiece which has some great Arabic tunes. It's some of the best music for a film that I have heard all year! He adds spice to every action scene and makes the movie all the more thrilling and exciting. The 13th Warrior is an excellent and underrated score. Goldsmith creates a mix of Arabian style music to go with his interpretation of what Viking music would be to create a unique and enjoyable listening experience. I bought this cd on the strength of Goldsmith's name and enjpyed it so much I actually bought the movie, which was not too bad either. While Goldsmith had great success in 1999 with his score to the Mummy, the 13th Warrior is just as good if different in tone and style, proving just what a master Goldsmith was.Free Music Review: The 13th Warrior

One of the highlights of the movie, Goldsmith perfectly incorporates the exotic music of the Middle East with the deep tone of the Viking World, using strings, horns, drums, and voices. Similar to the theme of "The Mummy", it still retains a sense of uniqueness and originality. Sometimes adventurous, other times ominous, and other times triumphant, all of the tracks perfectly create a feel for a time gone by. For those fans of medieval warlike music and ancient tradition, this is the soundtrack to buy!
