Free Music Review: A walk in the park, but a talented walk (and a fine park) Hit: 3 Stars
This is one of the more popular later works from film-music composer Jerry Goldsmith. A medieval hero-film with rude and roughly handsome good guys, and with atrocious, uniformed baddies. According to Goldsmith and director McTiernan, - obviously - this calls for a noble, majestic use of Leitmotif for the goodies, and more ominous, physical synthesisers for the tense moments with the baddies. "Warrior" is straightforward. Do not look for intricate theme-development or great variety in the displays of them - you will find some, but nothing spectacular. That is not to claim the music is mind-numbing! It is the nature of the movie itself that asks for a score like this - and Goldsmith simply aptly adepts to give his best. The main theme is fantastic, enough so to carry the rest of the material that is less inspired. That rest is not bad - oh not at all - but we have heard it before. This soundtrack is one for the adventure-score fan. Grand heroic, grand evil, thick action. Only a few minutes for romance and humour. Strange... all these comments would have been fatal to the gross of other composers' scores. However, Goldsmith has his reputation covering for him. In his case, I will conclude my listening with "ah, another walk in the park" while other composers could only wish to convey the intelligence and colours he does seeming effortlessly. In the booklet, Michael Crichton (who authored "Warrior") comments: "It's very common, during a scoring session, for the orchestra to play through a cue, and then spontaneously burst into applause for the quality of the composition". That is the sort of thing true film-music lovers will buy their CDs for (as opposed to burning them). I can advise you two things: listen to audio-samples and see if you like it; and if you do: go and check out his music for "The Mummy" as well. Both scores are worth every last penny, and they make valuable additions to your collection. Sharpen your blades, prepare your axes, and trim your beards. Great fun. This one gets three well-deserved stars. Bram Janssen, The Netherlands
Free Music Review: Actually, 3.5 Hit: 3 Stars
Look folks, to those of you who are worshipping this as some kind of second coming, or even going as far as to say that this is one of if not the best things Goldsmith has ever done (?!?!?!) need to pause and catch your breath for a second. Here's the real truth: Film music as a whole has really gone down the tubes over the past several years, so when anything even half way decent comes out, a lot of us have forgotten how good things used to be, so we fall over something like this. This is a good score, and is one of the better scores to come out in recent years. However, that isn't really saying much. Goldsmith does seem to be one of the only composers still putting forth some kind of effort. This score is basically a watered down Wind and the Lion. It has the one main theme for Baghdad at the beginning, as is richly orchestrated and colored, but there aren't really a lot of themes to grab out of this thing. Except for the one theme, I can't really remember another thing from this score when I walk away from it. Even The Mummy and Star Trek: Insurrection featured more memorable moments and themes that I can remember. This is a solid effort and well done, but there is no way in hell this is one of Goldsmith's best. Go ahead and listen to Legend. STTMP, Star Trek 5, Secret of NIMH, Islands in the Stream, Wind and the Lion, and others so you can refresh your memory. There is no comparison.

Moody, symphonic passages. Some nice melodies but mostly music you would expect from an intense adventure film.definitly not easy background or quiet time music.
Free Music Review: JUST DON'T GET IT FROM IMPORTCDS Hit: 1 Stars
This is a great soundtrack to a very good movie; just be careful who you buy it from. I ordered 1 copy from a seller called IMPORTCDS. They billed me for & shipped 3 copies. When I contacted them about the error they assured me that as long as I returned the extra 2 copies that they would issue a full refund on all but what I had originally ordered. Over 2 weeks later, I actually got a refund for 1 copy; I've still paid for the 2nd as well as their shipping charge to send me the 2 copies I never wanted in the 1st place. Customer service this is not. DO NOT BUY FROM IMPORTCDS !!!
