Free Music Review: Where are the best songs? Hit: 2 Stars
This soundtrack is definitely lacking in the high point songs of the 60's. If I had been the person to compile the songs it would have ben much diferent. Free Music Review: same old stuff Hit: 2 Stars
I refused to buy this CD until I had a chance to see the specific songs included because I expected - rightly so as it turned out - that many tracks would be the same old, same old we hear every day on every oldies station. There was alot of terrific music in the show that really defined the turbulent 60's - when I grew up and went to college and demonstrated against the war - but little was included on this CD. Anyone that collected the REAL music of the 60's already have most of these cuts on individual albums. The song in the show that really blew me away was "Nature's Way" by Spirit from the album "12 Dreams of Dr. Sardonicus". (If you didn't grow up in the 60's, you've never heard of it). Now that was a cut I haven't heard in YEARS even though I own this album. This CD COULD have been great but I'll wait for the sequel to see if the powers that be can get it right the second time. The only reason I gave it 2 stars is because of the inclusion of the Byrds, Animals and Dylan tracks.
Free Music Review: All the good songs are gone! Hit: 2 Stars
Having watched the 4 hours of the stereotypical view of the sixties...all kids are either draft dodger radicals or gung-ho GIs....I was surprised at how diverse the soundtrack was in the movie. But unfortunately they didn't put the real gems on the CD. "For What It's Worth" by Buffalo Springfield alone would have been worth the price of the disc, but no, we get "My Boyfriend's Back" trotted out once more. And what about any British music for God's sake? The Beatles one appearance from the landmark appearance on the 2/9/64 show is the only hint that there was music made anywhere but the good old U.S.A. So much for a truthful representation of either the era or the music. By the way, I lived through the sixties.
Free Music Review: Throw away the key. Hit: 2 Stars
I haven't bought this CD, and I probably won't, now that I know what's on it. I did watch the 2 part show on NBC,(this week actually). And this soundtrack kinda ticks me off. It looks like they went with the more user friendly tracks aimed at the folks who actually grew up in the 60's, rather than target today's generation like I thought the film did. No Velvet Underground on this CD and there were 2 songs by them in the movie! Nope this reeks of a bad K-Tel tape. 2 stars for this one, just because that Temptations movie got My Girl on a kick.
