I just wanted to say that I recently bought this CD along with The Absence's first CD "From Your Grave" and I have been blown away. I am so surprised that a band of this talent and with such great songwriting and musicianship is flying this low on the radar. Maybe it is just me, but I had never heard of The Absence until looking around on amazon and looking at lists people have made. I just sort of stumbled upon them.
To me this CD is the perfect balance of heavy and melodic. I am always searching for bands that are very heavy, but shy away from 100% death metal material. I love the gothenburg melodic death metal sound (In Flames, Dark Tranquility, At the Gates...) and this fits nicely with that style. I literally got chills listening to the first song "Riders of the Plague" at the 2:12 mark when he sings the title lyric and goes into the deep growl.
I highly recommend this CD to someone who enjoys metal music and is fine with this style of vocals (growling style similar to In Flames and Dark Tranquility). You really can't go wrong with this cd. It has such a great energy, and the songwriting is great. All I can say is.....buy this CD. There are so many metal bands toning down their sound or putting out completely generic and unoriginal music that we need to support the few bands left who are making great heavy metal.
