Free Music Notes for The Dead Walk AlbumFree Music Review: Blistering & bombastic Hit: 4 StarsIf you listen to The Acacia Strain's fourth record, "The Dead Walk", you're in for a serious dose of pummel. This record, which sounds like Meshuggah influenced metalcore and hardcore, sounds very confident, because the band seem more content on damaging the listener's hearing than making a completely innovative album. The sound is extra corrosive and the turgid rhythms are like falling logs, because they storm down upon your ear drums with rigid riffs and powerful drumming (including an almost constant use of a thunderous double bass). The vocals, meanwhile, are predictably very intense. Frontman Vincent Bennett bellows his vocal parts from his gut and ends up sounding along the lines of the band Remembering Never. But The Acacia Strain are much more technical and even heavier than that band. The guitarists play churning riffs while the drummer anchors the songs with heavy, rapid fire blasts on such skull crackers as "4X4". Other notable songs are the abrasive, grinding guitars and cascading drums on "Angry Mob Justice", and the booming rhythm of "Whoa! Shut It Down", which features more pounding riffs and bottom heavy drums. If you like even a little bit of melody in your metal, or even if you prefer the music your listening to to breathe and have some relief, you'll definitely want to steer clear of "The Dead Walk". But if you're a hardcore/tech metal fan, go ahead: pop this disc in and prepare yourself for a cement block blow to the head. Just remember to pick up all your teeth when you're done listening.
