Free Music Notes for The Alamo AlbumFree Music Review: I HATE IT Hit: 1 StarsHaving enjoyed the symphonic score written by Dimitri Tiomkin for the 1960 version of "the Alamo" I knew that this score would probably be different.Remakes somehow always come off poorly, and Carter Burwell's score for the 2004 version of"the Alamo"underlines this perfectly. This is supposed to be an EPIC film about an exciting moment in history...it would appear that all of the excitement seems to have been missed or ignored by Mr.Burwell, who has employed a large orchestra to play what can only be described as minamalist backround music.Indeed, one of the centerpieces of any"Alamo"films must be the final battle..Burwell's score includes several cues for this scene but,if one listens to any or to all of them apart from the film one cannot tell if they were written for a fierce battle sequence or if they were written for a sedate, country quilting bee. I hated this score...It is not "epic"in its execution,it has no themes that one might be whistling after having viewed the movie or listened to the soundtrack album. It is a collection of boringcues and,as such will appeal only to Carter Burwell enthusiasts and/or those who must own all merchandise relating to the film..Those who were expecting a rousing score will be keenly disappointed...Those who want to fall asleep will not.The Catchphrase used to promote the 2004 film is"YOU WILL NEVER FORGET".I disagree,at least in regard to Burwell's music...it is the sort of music that is MEANT to be forgotten!
