Free Music Notes for A Decade of Hits 1969-1979Free Music Review: Put this Badboy in Your Collection Hit: 5 StarsThis is just a great collection of songs. Of course I'm being biased because the Allman Brothers happen to be one of my favorite rock groups, but if you are a "newbie" to their music you might want to start with this flawless CD. Even if you've been hanging out with Greg and Duane and the rest of the boys for some time, you still might want to invest in this CD because it really is a superb anthology.
One of my favorite songs on this CD is "In Memory of Elizabeth Reed". It is just a terrific jam and the story behind it is just great. Turns out Duane was in the cemetery one day just hangin' out and playing the guitar and came up with the music to this song and when he stood up to go home he saw a tombstone that said, "In Memory of Elizabeth Reed". Just a fun bit of trivia, but it really endeared me to this group because yeah, on the outside they are a lot of grit, but inside they're pure soul and soul is something that's missing in a lot of the groups today. There's no sense of spirit...no driving force...just people who want to "cash in" as fast as they can.
In 25 years Brittney Spears will be "Brittney who?" Usher will be already be ushered out, but the Allman Brothers will still be - living or dead - kicking it into full gear.
Peace & Blessings
Free Music Review: Belongs on Every Rock Fan's Shelf Hit: 5 StarsGood stuff. "Jessica" is not as important to me as when I first heard it, mostly because of overplay on shlock rock radio stations. Although the band could jam with the best of them, they are at their best on shorter tracks such as "Blue Sky" and "Rambling Man," where the wonderful guitar playing benefits from single-edit-length crispness. You can't find a more beautiful Southern rock song than "Melissa," indeed, there are few songs as beautiful in any genre.
Free Music Review: Good Collection Of Classic Songs Hit: 5 StarsI am a big fan of The ABB and used this album to start out. i wanted the classics, i thought this CD was what it was. it does include such classics as "Jessica",Greggs Heartfelt "Midnight Rider" and "Melissa". Now That i am In to the Allman Brothers more and own more albums, i say this one is a great Starters CD. If You want to explore more into the Band, then i suggest "Gold" and "Beginnings". But overall a great Collection For Any Fan
Free Music Review: A Decade of Hits 1969 - 1979 Hit: 5 StarsThis CD has all the best songs that I have loved since I heard them when I was growing up. It brings back some great memories that I will always cherish.
Free Music Review: Summer Hit: 5 StarsI don't really like the Allman Brothers. I don't like jam music. I don't even like 70s rock. But I love this album. Listening to it in the deadness of an upstate NY winter, it still makes me feel like it's a summer day at the lake with a bunch of friends.
