Free Music Notes for A Decade of Hits 1969-1979Free Music Review: NOT ENOUGH Hit: 3 StarsSure, the Allman Brotheres Band is the greatest southern rock band of all time, and my personal favorite. Sure, every single song on here is absolutely amazing, but unless you've never even heard of the Allman Brothers before, you need more.
Instead of this unsubstancial collection of some of the hits, I would recommend "Stand Back: The Anthology" This overview really gives you a better portion of what you really need.
If you like this and are interested in more, "Live at Fillmore East" really shows off their jamming talent, and "Eat a Peach" is their most solid studio album.
Free Music Review: Good Tunes Hit: 5 StarsI love getting my CDs from Amazon -- they always come on time. They have the great tunes, great movies... I'm so addicted to Amazon. My town doesn't have a music store (anymore), so I rely on Amazon!
Free Music Review: Good music! Hit: 5 StarsIf you're a Classic Rock fan, you should own this album. Really. It's loaded with rock classics such as Ramblin' Man (actually one of the lesser songs on this collection in my mind), Statesboro Blues, Midnight Rider, Dreams and Whipping Post. Plus it contains NONE of the Allman's legendary stage indulgence. Oh, that and the music's good. Highlights include Whipping Post, Midnight Rider, Statesboro Blues, Dreams, Melissa, Revival, Southbound and Crazy Love, though virtually ever song is great.
However, there is a song I could've done without, and that's the completely forgettable, overlong instrumental In Memory of Elizabeth Reed. And the fact that Trouble No More and It's Not My Cross to Bear were excluded really makes me mad. But I would still recommend this highly.
Free Music Review: A must have for a fan Hit: 5 StarsI'm a big allman Brothers Band fan. I've seen them live several times. This is the best collection of their best songs. If you are thinking of buying it, do it. You will not be sorry.
Free Music Review: Excellent compilation album Hit: 5 StarsI have never really been a huge Allman brothers fan mostly because my interests lie in other music genres. That said, having owned this CD for many years, I have found that it is one that I often come back to. The muscianship is very good and many of these songs will get stuck in your head. I would think that this would be a very good starting place to get familiar with the classic Allman brothers songs.
