Free Music Notes for A Decade of Hits 1969-1979Free Music Review: pretty good cd by the christian Hit: 4 StarsI think this cd is a good deal for the average Allman Brothers fan. I think they could have at least fitted 20 songs on this cd though. The Allman Brothers band is one of the greatest southern rock bands of all time. If your a huge Allman Brothers band fan then you should definetly get the Box Set. I hope you really enjoy this cd though and God bless you all.
Free Music Review: A MUST HAVE!!!! Hit: 5 StarsThis is the best collection of music I have listened to! Every song is a hit, and at such an unbeleivable price. This album has really changed my mind about rock n roll. I am very impressed.
Free Music Review: Wonderful Compilation Of 70s Allman Brothers Classics Hit: 5 StarsA DEACADE OF HITS 1969-1979 is a wonderful compilation of Allman Brothers classics from the 70s. All of their albums from this period, except for WIN, LOSE, OR DRAW, are represented by one to four songs. There are so many exceptional cuts here that nothing really stands out. The fact that past and present members of the Allmans advocate sanctions against countries which convict foreign tourists for trumped-up crimes proves that these guys have good hearts as well as lots of great music, making this CD/cassette an essential purchase for both your ears AND your conscience. You should buy this one while you're buying the first five albums and ENLIGHTENED ROGUES.
Free Music Review: Does it get any better than this? I think not Hit: 5 StarsA Decade of Hits could be a greatest hits, with only a few omissions. But even on many so-called greatest hits albums you're not likely to get everything you'd like. Usually, you have to shell out even more money for every song by a particular band or artist. And even these often remain largely incomplete. Therefore, it is hardly fair of me to fault A Decade of Hits when it delivers numerous great songs and doesn't even claim to be a greatest hits or complete song collection.Of the 16 songs on the CD, 13 are excellent are better-than-average, while 2 are "good", and only one unlistenable (appropriately titled Wasted Words, it should never have made its way onto this fine collection), but this is just my opinion, and others are free to disagree. What this means further is that there is better than a 93% satisfaction rate (hence the 5 stars). Moreover, the price is a steal--you would pay more than $1 per song for some of these gems, and yet you're paying much less than that, around $0.75 per for all 16; if you're interested in what you're paying for the best of the best, about 13 or so, you're still paying only $0.92 or so. Simply stated, it does not get much better than this, and one would be hard-pressed to find a better CD collection, across time and genre, band or solo. That is my 2 cents. Now enjoy!
Free Music Review: Perfection! Hit: 5 StarsEqually strong as an introduction to the band as well as a summary of their musical accomplishments throughout the seventies, 'A Decade of Hits 1969-1979' is one of those anthologies that no serious music collector should be without. An incredible live rendition of "Statesboro Blues" breaks the silence in the album to be followed by cult song after cult song of Southern Rock classics ("Midnight Rider", the intrumental anthem "Jessica" and "Ain't Wastin' Time No More" being among the biggest highlights), sweet ballads such as "Melissa" and beautiful instrumentals such as "Little Martha". Another live track "One Way Out" prepares the closing of the album, along with early classics, "In Memory of Elizabeth Reed", "Dreams" and "Whipping Post". In a word: Perfection! If the music it carries is not enough by itself, another nice thing about this compilation (I guess it's more a merit of the band than anything else) is that it still leaves room for exploration: it doesn't exhaust by any means all there is to the Allman Bros. As a matter fact, if you dig this hits album, you are very likely to LOVE 'Beginnings' (a CD that combines their first two albums) and their demolishing 'Live at the Fillmore East'.
