A previous reviewer said that this deluxe edition of The Allman Brother's "At Fillmore East" is perfect for casual fans. That may seem misleading, but its true. I am not a big fan of the band. I've bought "Live at Atl. Int. Pop Festival," the two disc retrospective "Road Goes on Forever," and this. This is ABB's definitive statement - Southern Blues in an almost jazz-improv setting. The sound is breath-taking, large, and almost too much for one sitting.
"Statsburo Blues" is in its finest form on this album, and the same can be said of the rest. "Mountain Jam" and "Whipping Post" are two of the best reasons to buy this edition - they benefit greatly from the deluxe treatment, clocking in at 33 and 22 minutes respectively. "In Memory of Elizabeth Reed" is equally demanding and amazing, featuring great work by the greatest slide guitarist of all-time, Duane Allman. Unfortunately, he only worked through a few more songs before his death by a peach truck. One can only wonder what could have been. But for those of us not born to hear him live, or too old to reverse time and grow up on Southern Rock, this is a great introduction.
How could an Allman Brothers Live album be anything other than deluxe?
