Free Music Review: The Second ABB Album to Have
Hit: 5 Stars

Duane Allman once said that he "eats a peach for peace." Little did he know that it would bear the title of his next album, of which fate wouldn't allow him to complete. Duane never got to reap in the awards of their new found fame & success.

The Fillmore album is still the ultimate statement for the ABB, but this album is the companion album to showcase Duane's enormoous talents. The main centerpiece is the long Donovan inspired "Mountain Jam", & the romping cover of "One Way Out" with a snarling Dickey Betts solo & jaw dropping slide solo by Duane.

Imagine, a ROCK band from Macon, GA. incorporating the spirit of Kind of Blue, Herbie Hancock, & the Carter family... & creating, improvising, pushing each other... for over 30 minutes! However, their mastery will lead to many other bands that would attempt to accomplish this... & fall short with self indulgent noodling, while citing Miles & Coltrane as...."influences." For better or worse, they may have also helped in creating the "jam band" scene of today.

This album is worth 5 stars.... but you have to wonder how this album would've turned out had Duane made it. Songs such as Ramblin' Man & Jessica... what would Duane have done to those pieces?

But then again, it wouldn't have spawned songs such as "Melissa" (compare the version in late 60's to this), & arguably the best song his little brother ever wrote, "Ain't Wastin' Time No More". The title is almost ironic in the events that follow for this band, but perhaps I'm being too harsh, as not many bands have lost their soul & inspiration.

Free Music Review: "Rook"
Hit: 5 Stars

I first listened to this band because my uncle [David "Rook" Goldflies] was in it. But then I just starting liking the music! They are an awesome band and everyone should listen to them!

Free Music Review: THE jam album, as well as the Allmans best...
Hit: 5 Stars

Despite the loss of Duane, the Allmans really came together on this one to produce one of the best albums of this category of ALL time. From all the gems on the first and third side of the LP (Sorry, don't have the CD yet!), to the awesome 'Mountain Jam', the Allmans proved that they were going to put out one great album.

This CD should really be put in the same category as some of the Beatles classics, as so many inspirations to many bands were drawn from classics like "Melissa" to "One Way Out". Listening to these songs today still brings chills to my spine, as this music was just so passionate, and so well written and executed.

Any fan of music should give this a listen, as this CD should NOT fall in the category of 'Southern Rock' (as it has been placed in here and there for some odd reason) - it is just simply a great bluesy, countryfied rocking CD with a southern influence - no 'Free Bird' here! My advice - Eat this peach!!! This the Allman's at one of their finest moments...

Free Music Review: It Don't Get Much Better Than This!
Hit: 5 Stars

If this recording consisted of only the Mountain Jam, it would be worth the money spent. To hear the final notes of Whipping Post leading into the Jam...to Dickey and Duane circling around each other as they head into the main theme of the piece...and then the amazing musical journey of the Jam itself...it's about as close to perfection that any band can hope to achieve. About the only thing better is listening to both on the Fillmore Concerts CD in sequence, and you realize that these guys jammed for nearly an hour without a break.

Not that the rest of Eat a Peach lacks anything. Blue Sky is a well-deserved classic, and just hearing the opening notes makes me smile every time. One Way Out, Ain't Wastin' Time No More, Les Brers in A Minor, Melissa...it's like an honor roll of rock n'roll. And then there's Little Martha, one of the sweetest, tightest, loveliest pieces Duane and Dickey ever put down.

If Fillmore East is the greatest live album ever recorded, then Eat a Peach has got to be the best all-around Allman Brothers album. Talk about an essential album...this has got to be near the top of the list.

Free Music Review: The best the Allman Brothers did
Hit: 5 Stars

This album defines the Allman Brothers, it has long jams, Mountain Jam is great to sit and jam too, it also has the catchy tunes like one way out or melissa. It has my favorite ABB song, Blue Sky, i love this song and got to see it live this summer, great concert. Any Allman Brothers fan has to have this album, even if your not, if you are into classic rock or jam bands this is a must have album. The jacket is very cool too, when stoned you can stare at the inside picture for hours looking at all the psychedelic mushrooms and the incredible imagery. Buy this album.
