Free Music Review: Pride power and passion aplenty
Hit: 5 Stars

Arguably the best studio work of the ABB career, with gems like Blue Sky, Stand Back, Ain't Wastin' Time No More, Les Brers and Melissa, plus the definitive versions of One Way Out and Trouble No More. Mountain Jam twists and turns finding every nuance of the tune, much the way good jazz players turn a fairly simple standard inside out.

Perhaps most interesting to me is that you can see the incredible growth of the band in just 6 months since the Fillmore record, and sense the search for a new voice in a post Duane era.

essential music. Played with pride power and passion. Great songs, great performances

Free Music Review: Guitar Jam
Hit: 5 Stars

One way out is my alltime favorite Allman Brothers tune. One of the best guitar jams of all time. Awesome.

Free Music Review: Fabulous music in general, not just fabulous Southern Rock...
Hit: 5 Stars

Yes, of course you could call the Allman Bros. a Southern Rock ensemble, but as this album shows, this band was far, FAR deeper (and better) than your run-of-the mill Southern rockers like .38 Special. In fact they are more of a jazz-rooted ensemble with jazzy instrumental textures. Listen to "Les Brers in A minor," for an excellent example of their interaction. Each member takes a solo (except for Oakley) and each is concise and to the point while the members LISTEN to each other and build intensity along with the soloist. And the improv never seem to go on too long, unlike Skynyrd, even on "Mountain jam," which ABB fans (like myself) love but newcomers to the ABB live experience will most likely find impossible to digest in one sitting.

Though I agree that Live at the Fillmore East is better (despite the seemingly sacriligeous editing and splicing between different performances) and this album is a bit of a hastily-assembled patch job, the music in the grooves is pure gold. Gregg Allman once again proves himself as a man of many talents; as well as possessing one of the more soulful white voices in rock history (along with Michel McDonald and John Fogerty), he's a superb pianist and a criminally underrated songwriter. I mean, just listen to "Ain't Wastin' No Time No More" and "Melissa" and tell me he isn't one of the best composers of his generation.

As for Duane, he is sorely missed. Derek Trucks is excellent, but he's no Duane Allman. His death stands as one of the premier rock 'n roll tragedies, along with Hendrix and Randy Rhoads. He gave the ABB a fire that not even Dickey Betts himself could recreate and the band was never quite the same after his passing, so this Eat a Peach turns out to be a perfect epitaph.

Free Music Review: SO NEXT TIME YOU EAT A PEACH........
Hit: 5 Stars

"The Grateful Dead of the South", "Improv Masters", whatever you call them, The Allman Brothers' "Eat A Peach" is a milestone in rock music. With a song listing that reads like a greatest hits, you can't go wrong. I recently saw The Allman Brothers and Lynyrd Skynyrd in concert in Savannah, and it was awesome. I bought this CD today, and listened to the entire thing. Yes, even Mountain Jam. I love how they combined live footage with studio recordings. The first half deals with Allman Brothers after Duane, and the second half showcases Duane's genius on his last album. So here's the breakdown-

First, something you should know-
This album was dedicated to Duane Allman, who died during this album's creation.

"Ain't Wastin' Time No More" is a great song with great piano and guitar. It's one of their pioneers. "Les Brers in A Minor" is an awesome instrumental that rocks! It sounds as though the band is warming up in the beginning. "Melissa" is one of my favorite songs by them. A great ballad with the guitar work of Dickey Betts. "Mountain Jam" is a monster. Clocking in at 33:38, this live instrumental showcases the entire band in some way. GREAT! "One Way Out" is an Allman Brothers classic. The definitive blues piece. "Trouble No More" is a nice blues piece with a catchy guitar riff. It's played by them a lot on tour. "Stand Back" is a great song, though not my favorite. Not necessarily weak, but not the strongest one on the album. "Blue Sky" showcases two of the greatest guitar solos I've ever heard. Finally, "Little Martha is the anthem for Duane. It's an acoustic guitar duet between Duane and Dickey. So good. The entire album is good. If you don't own it, buy it. You won't be sorry.

And every time you eat a peach, eat it for peace-
Eat it for Duane.

Free Music Review: simply another brilliant Allman offering
Hit: 5 Stars

most of the classic songs the Allman's are known for are on here, making this the definitive peak and best studio album. If you like southern inflected jam rock you really need this cd, it is one of the best albums I have heard in a long time. Be sure to get this one and Fillmore East for the definitive Allman collection. guitar hero Duane lives on in the terrific music of these two collections.
