Free Music Notes for Eat a PeachFree Music Review: Classic Allman Bros. Hit: 5 StarsWhat can I say? This is a great album. It was back then, and it still is. I decided 20 years ago that I want "Blue Sky" played at my funeral. Personally, I feel that Les Brers in A minor is one of their best. I am an aging person who is fortunate enough to have learned to enjoy the All Bros. through a "passing it down". I was born in '62 and unfortunately missed them in their prime. Recently, I played this album for a man who is 54 and really part of the generation. It had been a long time since he heard it and it was "part of his past" so to speak. I can't tell you the joyous hour that was spent listening to this album...for him and for me. It definitely is a good one. I never grow tired of it.
Free Music Review: Wonderful! Hit: 5 StarsThis is an amazing album. Eat a Peach and Live at the Fillmore are the essential Allman Bros albums.
Free Music Review: Great Moments on an Uneven Album Hit: 3 StarsI know I'll probably be knocked for giving this final Allman Brothers album to feature Duane Alman only three stars; but I must admit that I find it a little uneven. It has a strong opener in Gregg Allman's "Ain't Wasting Time No More", but Dickey's Betts' long instrumental "Les Brers in A Minor" sounds a little too loose to keep my interest going. The melodic "Sweet Melissa" is another strong Gregg Allman effort; one of my favorites. First track to feature Duane Allman is the extremely long live improvisions over Donovan's "There is a Mountain" called "Mountain Jam". Today this track may only be interesting to hard-core Allman fans. "One Way Out" and "Trouble No More" are two more live-tracks; The latter a great perfomance. Next track "Stand Back" is the first new studio track to feature Duane Allman and it's good recording. Last two tracks are two more of my personal favorites. Dickey's Betts' "Blue Sky" is featuring great dual guitar-playing by Duane and Betts. And finally the moving acoustic instrumental "Little Martha". At any rate a "must-buy" for fans of Southern Rock!
Free Music Review: A great album from a great band Hit: 5 StarsMuch of Eat a Peach was recorded after the death of Duane Allman and the rest were the recordings of sessions taped just before his death. Part tribute, listening to Eat a Peach thirty years later it's amazing to hear what a fantastic band this original line-up of the Allman Brothers was. Like most of the early albums, Eat a Peach transcends the "Southern Rock" label and can be appreciated for what it is: great music played by an excellent group of musicians. Dickey Betts is surprisingly great, stepping up to the plate with almost effortless playing. Great songs abound here. Even Mountain Jam [which at 33 minutes might have been a tedious affair] flies by with ease, containing a number of unforgettable instrumental solos. Eat a Peach belongs with every rock lover's collection. A great album that serves to highlight just how much we lost when Duane Allman passed away.
Free Music Review: Eat a Peach Hit: 5 StarsWhen I first heard the Allmans, I thought they were a Country band. I then listened to Jessica, possibly my favorite ABB song, and I tealized that this is pure, good old Southers rock. This album Eat a Peach, is brilliant. The 34 minute Mountain Jam is worth it, as well as every other song on the album. Buy it.
