Free Music Review: One of Allman's finest early records
Hit: 5 Stars

This album smells Southern Rock. Anyway,Idlewild is a place in
South America. What is Southern Rock? Well, as far as i know
country-rock and blues-rock mingled with South American lyrics(those about the life in the south). The album opens with 'Revival'(meaning of revival:to become alive again) my first Southern Rock experience[people can you hear it,love is everywhere]. Just like its title it is a refreshing song, makes the listener cheerful. 'Don't Keep Me Wondering' comes the second, 'Midnight Rider'-a very popular ABB song and 'In Memory of Elizabeth Reed' follow. These three are all enjoying to listen, the last one being instrumental. Maybe you have heard of Willie Dixon, he is the bluesman who before was a heavy-weight boxer, and then he learns to play the bass guitar. Dixon is the creator of 'Hoochie Coochie Man'(hooch=marijuana, cooch=a woman's genitals), their 5th song in the album. Drums here are unbelievable, make your blood boil. Also Berry Oakley is the singer in this song. It is supposed to be the best blues rock song sung by a white man. Gregg Allman sings the rest of the
songs. 'Please Call Home' is a slow blues rock example(i don't like this much). Album ends with 'Leave My Blues At Home'.Dickey Betts is the creator of 'Revival' and 'In Memory of Elizabeth
Reed', whereas all others by Gregg Allman.(of course except 'Hoochie Coochie Man' which is by Willie Dixon). Also on the album cover the black person may seem to be a woman he is a man.All Men.

Free Music Review: More than perfect. Next to this, perfection is [junk].
Hit: 5 Stars

In a way, "Revival" pretty well sums up the album. The opening acoustic guitar leads into a great song with a mini-solo from Dicky, Duane, Gregg, and Berry Oakley. One of the lesser known songs on the album may be "Don't Keep Me Wonderin'" about suspected cheating. "Midnight Rider" is well-known and for good reasons but there's more here than just it. Including the magnificent instrumental "In Memory of Elizabeth Reed" (this is definitely one to jam to) and the rockin' "Hoochie Coochie Man" with Berry Oakley singing lead. Be sure to crank the volume no matter where you are when playing it. "Please Call Home" is a slowed-down ballad with Gregg singing with some real feeling. Finally, "Leave My Blues at Home" is a fitting toe-tapper to end the album with (it always makes me want to start from the beginning again). I'm not sure, but the entire band seemed to be in perfect harmony on this album. Whether they really were or not, the album is more than perfect.

Free Music Review: great album and a great band
Hit: 5 Stars

this album is so awesome because it has probably the best instrumental rock song in history, In Memory Of Elizabeth Reed takes you on a journey thats so inspiring that you can't even begin to imagine how great musicians this guys were. Dickey Betts guitar is incredible not to mention the sounds that came from the late great duane allman is out of this world, this song or intrumental piece has a lot to offer it even has a mini drum solo! believe me if you haven't heard this song before try it you won't regret it. As for the other songs, like said before midnight rider is cool and revival ain't bad either listen to it and you'll discover how beautiful this album is, great southern rock!

Free Music Review: Masterpiece
Hit: 5 Stars

This album was great the first time I heard it and has easily withstood the test of time some 30 years later. The CD aptly starts of with Revival which will absolutely get you on your feet. In Memory of Elizabeth Reed immediately became a concert staple of the band and a chance for Dickey Betts to show off his musical talent. Greg Allman's singing exhibits an earthy southern soulfulness that would eventually dissipate after years of drugs and boozing. Duane Allman's superb slide guitar dominates throughout. Midnight Rider became another band signature song. One of the best concert bands of all time.
