Free Music Notes for The Allman Brothers at Fillmore EastFree Music Review: Fantastic Hit: 5 StarsThis is definitely one of the band's finest recordings. I first got this on cassette when I was young but was too immature to appreciate most of the music. As the years passed I grew fonder and fonder and eventually got the CD after the cassette wore out.
Greg is a great blues singer (a guy that ugly has gotta be), and Dickie and Duane play dueling Les Paul's on 23+ minute Whipping Post. T-Bone Walker's "Stormy Monday" has been recorded over and over again by almost every blues artist. However, this is without a doubt my favorite version of the song.
It's been over 30 years. This is still one of the finest rock and blues live performances.
Free Music Review: In a class by itself Hit: 5 StarsIf you were on a desert island, what book would you want, who would you like with you and what CD would you want. This is without question one of the greatest albums of ALL TIME and the one I'd pick. I'll have to think about the book and companion later .... "Whipping Post" is starting, gotta go........
Free Music Review: Best Live Album of All Time Hit: 5 StarsThe best live album ever. It's hard to believe this was recorded over 30 years ago. The music is better than anything going on today.
Free Music Review: A Musta Own Live Album Hit: 5 StarsThis is a MUST HAVE live album except i think the first 3 tracks are the lowkeys. These first three songs are of blues-rock type. And believe when i say they mar the beauty of what is to come in the rest of the album. Buy this for only last 4 tracks. And see what jamming is all about. And a flawless one. You Don't Love Me is inexplicable. Instrumentation, virtuosity, versatility. Hot 'Lanta reminds me of the soundtrack of the soap opera Streets of San Francisco. In Memory of Elizabeth Reed is a long great instrumental. Whipping Post by Gregg Allman is from the debut album of the band.
Free Music Review: Live at Fillmore Hit: 5 StarsIf they ever invent a time machine, I'm going to this concert.
