Free Music Review: Smooth and sweet late-1960s Philly soul sounds. Hit: 4 StarsThe Ambassadors were a little-known soul vocal group that recorded this album in 1969 for the short-lived Arctic label. Many of the musicians who would play very important roles in future Philadelphia International sessions played on this album (including Gamble and Huff themselves). The remastering quality is not great but this is still a very nice album.
Free Music Review: Nice discovery! Hit: 4 StarsI came across 'Soul Summit' the other day and thought it looked promising, so I bought it. I'm glad I did - this fine chunk of early Philly soul does not disappoint! Standouts: tracks 1, 3, 5, 6, 7, 9, 10 & 12. And judging from the Nixon Theater tracks, the Ambassadors were even better live!
