I am a really big fan of these songs. They are a mix of old songs from The End of The Ring Wars and a couple new ideas from post-LLO era. The old songs (which you can noticably tell the difference) were shelved when they got a new drummer and decided to start from scratch. They then recorded them for this 2003 release, most likely to end their record deal with Deep Elm and jump ship. However, it's certainly not a throw-a-way record. I understand the other reviews because it's just a bunch of experiments and b-sides, but the beauty is that it's still 100x better than the generic crap that is put out these days. "Take" is short, concise, yet simply beautiful. "House on a Hill" is just 6 minutes of feedback and loops, which can get kind of annoying, but "Beach Gray" I hold up there with the best of their quieter side. I love "Novice Ambient Cannibalization", it's a really cool alternative take of "Novice", which is also on this cd. E to W is a great way to start off the record. Overall, they did a great job putting together 9 songs for extra ASC material, even if it may not flow or is too experimental for some. I look at it like a normal record and give it 5 stars.
