Free Music Notes for EmotionalismFree Music Review: Incredible!!! Hit: 5 StarsThe title "Emotionalism" is very appropriate for this album that evokes feelings of sadness, love, hurt, passion... It's beautiful lyricism mixed with grand melodies and harmonies are unmatched. They have mixed in strings and electric this time, which make the songs that much more unique and REALLY hard to stop listening to. This is definitely an all-time top 10 favorite record for me.
Free Music Review: You Can't Find Better Than This... Hit: 5 StarsThis is the best group out there.
Their shows are always a good time, without fail, but not just a good time....there's substance to these guys and a charming sincerity in everything they do.
Nothing beats a live show, but you won't be disappointed just listening to a cd....all of a sudden you'll come back to your senses and realize there's a smile on your face.
Thank God for people like this.
Free Music Review: The Best Place to Buy, Avett Advice Hit: 4 StarsBuy this album on iTunes. It's $2 less AND it comes with 2 free rare tracks. I don't know if there are any hidden tracks on the regular version (these guys usually include some random hidden tracks), but the two bonus tracks from iTunes are definitely worthwhile and they are not on the regular album. If you're just getting into these guys, either check out a live show (very highly recommended!!!) or the "Mignonette" (my personal favorite) and/or "Four Thieves Gone" album(s). You'll be hard pressed to find a better live show in this genre. All things considered I can definitely say the album has some high points, but it's not their best work. Still, even when at their worst (which this is certainly NOT), these guys are pretty damn good.
Free Music Review: A Great Band from North Carolina Hit: 5 StarsHaving just attended an in-store concert to celebrate the release of this record let me report that the Avett Brothers just keep getting better. They've applied some varnish to their rough-hewn charms, but still remain a treasure. Mixing bluegrass, punk rock, ragtime and other indigenous music forms with strong songwriting, the Avetts score a bull's eye with EMOTIONALISM.
The band forgoes some of the more raucous moments that have made their live shows such a blast, but counter it's loss with, well more emotion. This is disk is chock full of well written, heart on your sleeve songs that could have been written yesterday or 100 years ago. They've put their hearts into these songs and it shows. Among the highlights are the opener, DIE DIE DIE, SHAME and PRETTY GIRL FORM SAN DIEGO.
