Free Music Notes for FunplexFree Music Review: Best ever? Hit: 5 StarsThe purists may disagree with me, but to my unpure ears, this is possibly the band's best work ever.
Usually there are one or two songs I just can't stand on an otherwise outstanding album, but /Funplex/ doesn't go there. There not a single track that I don't enjoy, over and over again.
And in most cases, if you don't have to resist the urge to dance, check your pulse. Seriously.
It is true that the sound is overall less organic than in the past, but Strickland's guitar keeps it all anchored firmly in the land of Pop.
One caveat: the lyrics are somewhat more mature in theme than in the past, heavy on innuendo to the point where it's not even innuendo in some cases. This may put off some people, and if you're one of those people you may take this under advisement.
The rest of us will be over there, being "a bunch of party geeks."
Please, sir, might I have more?
Free Music Review: Getting Nothing But Static Hit: 2 StarsI'll start off that 'Funplex' is better than 'Good Stuff' - but how could it not be? But I can't agree with many reviews it is a great album. It's an ok album. I'd gived it another 1/2 star if I could.
I've grown up with the Bs and love everything up to 'Good Stuff'. Maybe it's a 16 year gap, but this isn't hitting the marks.
Do not get me wrong - their voices are intact. But some of the material is just weak. "Love in the Year 3000"? It is just lame. You cannot just put the words 'shimmy' and/or 'shake' into a song and make it hip, groovy or fun. In those regards, the gang rests too much on their laurels.
The girls.....ahhhh Cindy and Kate still have incredible harmonies. I love them - and yet they are horribly under utilized on this disk. I think there is one song here without Fred - "Juliet of the Spirts" - which is great and should be the next single.
Yes, there is too much Fred. Not enough of the Kate & Cindy.
The title track is ok, but I constantly want to insert the actual title into "Love Shack" - "fun plex, baby fun plex. fun plex, baby fun plex". Maybe I'm just doing it to annoy myself.
There are some ok songs on it ("Pump"), but this isn't exactly the old B-52's, though they try to act like it.
Free Music Review: They are still partying. Hit: 5 StarsB-52's can be counted on for one thing. They don't go and mess up a tried and true formula. What they do works and I'm glad they keep on doing it.
Free Music Review: Funplex review Hit: 5 StarsAs usual, The B-52's have delivered another fun and exciting new CD. Have listened repeatedly and enjoy each and every title on the Disc.
Saw them in concert on 4/27, and enjoyed all of the new songs incorporated into the show. All of the new songs were just as enjoyable live as they are on the CD. I'm glad that the group remains together and still produces top notch material. Everyone should buy this CD !!
Free Music Review: Too Old to know whats good for me Hit: 5 StarsI may be old -- and so are the B 52's -- but its good to hear them all; Cindy & Kate are a great combo whatever the age. Fun Record all around and well produced. my 14 year old son was trying to figure out the lyrics...ahh, satire you can dance to. Did I mention the harmonies?
