Free Music Notes for The B-52'sFree Music Review: The Totally Infectious, Quintessential Party Album! Hit: 5 StarsThe first time that I was exposed to the B-52's was at a friend's party back in the late 1980's where he played this album. The music had a totally infectious quality to it getting a number of people to start dancing wherever they were! Shortly thereafter, I saw the video for "Love Shack" on MTV and I was totally hooked! I went and bought this original "B-52's" album along with "Cosmic Thing" and couldn't stop playing them! I later found and got copies of all of their other albums, but this album I believe is one of their best with the songs: The hypnotic "Planet Claire" with Fred singing "Planet Claire has pink air, all the trees are red! No one ever dies there, no one has a head!" The anthem "52 Girls" with Cindy & Kate singing "O-o-o Kate, Kate and Cindy and Crystal and Candy, Mercedes and Joan, Betty and Brenda, Suzie and Anita and Phoebe and Jack Jackie-o! These are the girls of the USA! The principal girls of the USA!" The wild "Dance this Mess Around" with Cindy Wilson singing "Why won't you dance with me? I'm not no limberger!" The totally infectious "Rock Lobster" with Fred singing "Here comes a stingray, There goes a manta-ray! In walked a jelly fish! There goes a dog-fish, Chased by a cat-fish! In flew a sea robin! Watch out for that piranha! There goes a narwhal! HERE COMES A BIKINI WHALE!" The totally charged "Lava" with Kate & Fred singing "My love's mountin'! My love's eruptin' like a red hot volcano!" The sci-fi inspired "There's a Moon in the Sky Called the Moon" with Fred, Cindy & Kate singing "There's a moon in the sky It's called the moon! And everybody is there, including: Saturn, Mercury! Saturn, Venus! Saturn, Mars! Saturn, Jupiter! The Van Allen Belt!" The soulful "Here Worship" with Cindy singing "Jerking motions won't revive him, mouth to mouth resusitation! I just lay down beside him and idolize!" The very fun "6060-842" with Fred singing "Tina went to the Lady's room, saw written on the wall, 'If you'd like a very nice time, just give this number a call!'" Also is the only cover ever recorded by the B-52's: "Downtown". Many thanks to Fred, Cindy, Kate, Keith and the late Ricky for the most upbeat & fun music of all time!
Free Music Review: Absolutly Genial! Hit: 5 StarsIncluding in the New Wave movement as one of the principal forces we had this band from Athens, Georgia(the same as R.E.M.) wich is called for many years as "the best Party Band in the World". We are talkin'about their first release(1979) wich is, for the majority of their fans, their best work ever. And "The B-52's" is indeed a sublime work of creativity. Inspired in the alternative rock of the sixties and seventies, The B-52's appeared as "pop-freaks", using wigs, coloured clothes and, above all, creating an alternative form of making simple things sound great. As we can listen in this record, they were a diferent band who used lines like "here comes a bikini whale" in the classic "Rock Lobster", or "if you're lucky you get to ride in a gold meteorite" in the crazy-spacial track "There's a moon in the sky(called the Moon)". Other tunes are highlights like the great rock sound of "Lava" or the essential "Dance This Mess Around". And we have also in here a brilliant cover of the major hit "Downtown". The whole album is genial. The B-52's began their career with their creativity peak. ESSENTIAL to everyone who enjoy good music, with a positive attitude. In my collection of 545 CD's this album is, of course, in my Top 20. Like The B-52's used to say "It's good to be diferent"...

Free Music Review: Believe it or Not! Hit: 5 StarsOk, when I was growing up, my only exposure to the B-52's was hearing "Love Shack" and "Good Stuff" on the radio. Therefore, I figured that this was the WORST band in the history of rock n' roll. Then, on a hunch, I stole their debut album from this record store I worked at. That album didn't leave my CD player for five months!! Seriously, this record is catchier than the clap! EVERY song (well, except for the Downtown cover) is a friggin' classic! And this is coming from a GG Allin, Flipper, Black Flag fan! While I don't recommend anything but their first two albums (Whammy! is pretty rockin' if you REALLY like those first two) they are MUST HAVES!!!
Free Music Review: An absolute, must have album ! Hit: 5 StarsSo many people have tried to sum up this album, and, even reading the reviews here, I have come to the conclusion that it's impossible to sum up. This superb masterpiece from those funky bohemians from Athens, Georgia, was an offbeat, otherworldly, 3rd dimensional oddity that was truly unique in 1979, and, 23 years later, is still an amazing, one of a kind album. If this album is not in your collection, then you couldn't possibly be a "serious" collector. Although the obvious and most common adjectives to describe this debut are along the lines of, "wacky" "funny" and "goofy," most critics forget to mention what great musicians they are. This band created some of the tightest and funkiest rythym since James Brown in his heydeys. Sure, their lyrics and vocals were intentionally "tongue in cheek," but that music was the work of seriously gifted artists, hellbent on making you shake your rump. Ricky Wilson's guitar work never ceases to amaze me, nor does Kate Pierson's phenominal work on the keyboards. I could rattle on and on about this album, but trust me.....just buy it ! This album earned it's classic status the hard way and strictly on it's own merits, proving that something great will endure the test of time. A very deserving 5 star effort.
