The Backyardigans is an absolutely amazing show that portrays the imaginations of five friends [Tyrone the Moose, Pablo the Peguin, Tasha the Hippo, Austin the Kangaroo, and Uniqua the uhh well...Unique]and the adventures they dream up in their backyards. These adventures range from returning a worm to his jungle home to tracking down the home of the mysterious Yeti. Each episode contains between 5 to 7 song and dance numbers which highlight a different genre of music [I.E. funk, bossa nova, disco, jazz and many many more]. The music so well done that you will find yourself singing along with your children [or perhaps just humming the songs while at work]. But beyond that, the show itself is very imaginative and will sustain the childs intrest for twenty or so minutes. Granted it doesn't have quite the same teaching qualities that say Dora and Blue have [hey, my 2 year old can count to ten in spanish thanks to Dora], but it does show children how to use their imagination and the many things that they can do with this powerful tool, remember at the end of each episode the landscape returns to their backyard. Also, this show gives children an appreciation for music. The fact that each episode showcases a different type of music gives children a taste of the different styles of music available to them. The show produces so much music that a proper set would contain over 50 tracks and probably cover 2 cd's which would be overkill, so this cd gives you a good selection of the favorites that will have you and your children singing along on family trips everywhere.
