Free Music Notes for The Last WaltzFree Music Review: The Band, The Last Waltz, Winterland, San Francisco, Thanksgiving Evening.... Hit: 5 Stars
This has got to be one of my favourite Boxed Sets of ALL TIME! I'm so glad they released the extended version with the outtakes & jams. Not only were The Band one of the most talented groups of our time but this set has them at top form with a host of guest players having a grand time. They are hot on this Thanksgiving night!
It was recorded in my town, San Francisco at one of my fave concert venues, Winterland.... I miss Winterland. I was at Thanksgiving dinner with family or I'd have dragged my brother to this gig for sure. Having the extended boxed set & the DVD are almost like going back in time & seeing The Band again....
This is a must for even a casual fan. It's got great songs, great recording & those voices. I can't say enough about their voices. Man, could they sing! And, they sang high (my co-worker say's, yeah, they sang high, too,....) & beautiful harmonies.... You can't go wrong with this one.
There's very few groups that can stand the test of time & these guys are definately one of 'em. Such a shame we won't be having a reunion with The Band until we pass over to the Other Side....

The original album was great and still is, but this box set blows me away. Between the extra tracks with Bob Dylan, Neil Young and Joni Mitchel this album is worth buying. But to add some rehersals of Van Morrison going over "Irish Lulaby" and "Caravan" and Dr. John doing "Such a night" this new box set ROCKS!!!!How the band could put Country, blues,Jazz and soul in to one song just floors me.The sound is great, the performances are great and the booklet has some great liner notes and photos. This was one concert I wish I was able to go to. But since I was only seven at the time (1976) I don't think my parents would have allowed it. Thank god my brother is 10 years older then me and had good taste to like THE BAND. Thier are to many hightlights to mention so do yourself a favor, lay out the cash and go back to a time when music had passion and the performer gave his or her all. A few band that still have that passion now a days, MARAH "KIDS IN PHILLY", WILCO, Steve Earle,The Gourds,Son Volt and Ryan Adams. "Goodnight and goodbye"

Having bought the bootlegged Complete Last Waltz, I was already familiar with a lot of the unreleased material. As soon as my package from Amazon.com came, I put in Disc 2 and listened to Acadian Driftwood (my favorite Band song)and was blown away by the sound quality. The 80 page book that comes with the CD's is mint (with a heartwarming 2 pages devoted to Rick Danko and Richard Manuel's memory) and a great have for any Band fan (or music fan for that matter). For a group that had little commerical success, this is a 4 CD legacy that will hopefully be enjoyed by generations to come. I know I'll be buying the DVD the day it comes out. R.I.P. Rick and Richard
Free Music Review: And so we jammed the Last Waltz Hit: 5 Stars
You just cant get any better than the music these men have made, with the help from fellow performers such as Neil Young, Eric Clapton, Bob Dylan, and many more. With songs like "Helpless" with Neil Young, and "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down", from beginning to end this CD is a masterpiece. You simply lose yourself in the songs and are brought back to the time it all took place with the live recordings. Ending off with "I Shall Be Released" sung by everybody involved in the concert , it is one of the most beautiful songs ever. The DVD "The Last Waltz" is a must have as well. Enjoy
