Free Music Notes for The Last WaltzFree Music Review: Good stuff - Beware the packaging Hit: 5 Stars
As an owner of the original LW CD, I couldn't wait to get my hands on this collection. Well worth it, even if you have the first release. However... Be very careful with the lousy way the CD's rest in the "box". ONE day after purchase, I dropped three CD's out of the box while carrying it on a sidewalk. They are now worthless. I pleaded my situation to the distributor's online customer service thingy. The kind folks at Rhino Records were then very helpful to point out the simple process of replacing them via credit card through their online store.
Free Music Review: Bill Graham would be proud Hit: 5 Stars
A classy, much needed upgrade of the original 2-disc set. The photos are stunning. The essay is well-done. The remaster's sound is excellent. And the energy of Band itself is so high, the wheel of my CD player almost caught fire. It certainly makes one mourn Richard and Rick's passing all the more. And if only Robbie had found a way to bury the broken arrow and play on with his mates... Like the audience that witnessed the actual performance of Last Waltz ...(including my pal Moshe), purchasers will get considerably more than their money's worth.
Free Music Review: FINALLY! Hit: 5 Stars
. It just arrived and I am on track 5. Couldn't wait to comment. The sound quality is truly astounding. I have had the vinyl and cd versions of the original release. This.... is like a whole new experience. Stop reading this review and buy it, NOW. For me it is worth it simply for the version of "Don't do it" that the movie opens with but was left off the earlier release. I have been a big fan for 16 of my 34 years and feel as if I have been waiting for this version for all of those years. Now I'm just counting down to the DVD release.
Free Music Review: Forgotten How Good They Were! Hit: 5 Stars
Wow. Just took this out of the box and re-realized how good The Band were. I've got most of their recordings (pre break up), but this is something on another level. The sound of this new box is outstanding and although I have not compared one to one with the older 2CD version I suspect I won't be playing it much any more. I'm too young to have seen The Band and regret it more than every now, but all I can say is if you like great music of any sort from any era you gotta have this. Roll on the DVD.
Free Music Review: Get the movie also Hit: 5 Stars
If you are interested in this CD it would be incomplete without the Last Waltz DVD. I am astounded by the cinemetogrophy of the film (directed by none other than Martin Scorcese). What a wonderful blend of live and recorded scenes. The guest list is astonishing. The best of the best from the 70's accompany one of the greatest group of musicians from the era. If you are a classic rock lover and absolutely need this CD, definitely get the DVD as well.
