Free Music Notes for ChinatownFree Music Review: Happy But Not Toooo SWEET it's a good album!!!! Hit: 5 Starsthe album starts out with ''is's not happening'' a good little song. The cover of 'waiting around to die' is stark but well done. Also I loved their version of 'house of the rising sun' is great,it's about time this song was covered by a female band,as that is the way it was intended to be played. 'Doggsong' makes me sad ,as the animal lover that I am. The rest of the album is so listenable,it's definitely worth buying.Try it you'll like it!!!
Free Music Review: Honor Diversity Hit: 4 StarsOne reviewer writes, 'Another one for the "No Depression" poop pile.' I note from their reviews that their tastes run pretty hard to Dead White Guys. No problem with that -- to each their own -- but if you sometimes listen to artists with a pulse, give the BGTs' lovely music a shot, perhaps along with some other stuff from the No Depression alt.country pile (otherwise known as some of the most vibrant and important North American popular music of the past 20 years).
Free Music Review: Some of the best of modern bluegrass (4.5 stars) Hit: 4 Stars"Blue Horse" will always be my favorite of the Tanya's work, because I heard a lot of the content live. Not to say this isn't a great CD. My favorite is their cover of Townes' "Waiting to Die;" however, the whole CD is very good and very worth listening to.
Who'd have thunk a trio of Canadian women would so have bluegrass nailed? Just in general a very listenable group with great takes on both standards and new material.
Free Music Review: Another awesome CD...Great job Tanyas! Hit: 5 StarsI already own the other two titles by the Tanyas and love them both.
Now that I've given Chinatown a few listens, I love it as well.
You'll never find another group like the Tanyas. Their sound is unique and harmonies are totally enchanting. Buy a few copies and give them to friends. Highly recommended.
Free Music Review: Second and best effort Hit: 5 StarsI can't get enough of their blues/folk/bluegrass/? sound, and Chinatown is their most interesting and versatile of their three releases. I've 5-stared all their cd's, this one needs a 5.5. Its great easy listening, or intense listening for the incredible lyrics.
