Yes, it's a classic. Yes, it does belong in any serious library of pop music. No, it might not be what you are expecting. It does not have the hooks or gee-whiz production wizardry of the oft-compared Sgt. Pepper's. It is not like anything the Beach Boys did before or since.What it is, is a very fine listening experience. Make no mistake, these are VERY strong songs from start to finish. I bought it looking forward mainly to Wouldn't It Be Nice, and God Only Knows, but keep coming back for That's Not me and Here Today. These songs really have a way of getting hold of you.
This release also features some excellent liner notes that help you to get a feel for the time, and for the production of the album.
P.S. I had the distinct privelege of attending a Brian Wilson concert last summer featuring the performance of this album in its entirety. Marvelous.
