Free Music Notes for Sounds of Summer: Very Best of The Beach Boys

Free Music Review: Best compilation of BB's songs
Hit: 5 Stars

The Beach Boys are a classic American group who sing music about classic American things; cars, girls, suntans, school etc...Songs such as "Do you want to dance", "Surfer Girl" and "Be True to your School" are all examples of classic Beach Boy songs. This is a great CD because, even though there are too many Beach Boy's greatest hits albums to count, this particular one has their greatest songs from the beginning of their career in 1962 until the end of their span of hits in 1988. All thirty hits on the album were at one time on the Billboards top 40 countdown.
I being a Beach Boys fan for my entire life can remember listening to songs such as "Kokomo" and "Fun, Fun, Fun" with my older sister in the mid 80's, so listening to this CD brings back fond memories of being a child. Not only is this CD a favorite of mine due to the fact that I've always been exposed, but it is simply a fun CD. The Beach Boys are a group who sings about fun things, good times, parties and being young. This is definately an album I play to lift my spirits.
The music is typically Beach Boys, and nothing but, which is what makes it fabulous. Alot of the songs are in mono, but it does not take away from the distinct Beach Boys sound.
My favorite song on the album is "Kokomo", it is and always will be my favorite Beach Boys song, it's a feel good no worries type of song. My second favorite song would either be "In my room" or "GOd only knows" which are both songs that are slower and not quite as typical as other songs on the album
The only other group that could ever be compared to the Beach Boys is Jan & Dean who predated the Beach Boys but were only made widely famous for their "surfer" sound after the Beach Boys became popular themselves. But in my opinion the Beach Boys are the best.
Overall this is an awesome Beach Boys compilation, and I can't imagine there being a better one. If you're a casual Beach Boy's fan or an avid long time fan you'll love the 30 songs chosen for this particular album.

Free Music Review: The music is good and so is the group
Hit: 5 Stars

Since I was growing up, I've always become quite influenced on the Beach Boys. I do believe that this album is a must have for any fan of the beach boys or a fine addition to any collection.

Although, I'll admit out that the music and the group is very good, however, there is one thing that I feel the need to point out. No, I'm not trying to defy or bash their music or the group for that matter. But, their music for the most part is basically written about girls, surfing, or cars. Don't get me wrong, I have nothing personal against the beach boys, and I believe that they have many good sounds. But, if you were a producer or a director (so to speak), and your group basically wrote songs about the same stuff mostly, would you express your thoughts on the matter? If so, How? Or if not, Why?

There's another point I wish to bring up. When I was searcing the beach boys on a wikipedia search because I was merely trying to get to know them. There was something that did catch my attention. I found out that they did a performance for the late president Reagan and former first lady Nancy Reagan back in the early 80's. Plus, I also found out that McCain listed a song or 2 of their stuff in his top 10 favorites songs. I was quite impressed.

For what it's worth, I'm glad I have the beach boys, and this album is one of 10 albums in my music collection. May their music be adored for generations to come. If you are trying to collect songs of the beach boys, then this album would be really helpful.

Finally, I must be honest here. I was going to rate this album 4 stars, but I decided to give it 5 after all. Why? Well, the music and sounds alone would of let me rated it 4 stars, but for their politican background on the right kind of persuaded me to give it an extra star.

Free Music Review: QUINTESSENTIAL AMERICAN BAND
Hit: 5 Stars

The BEACH BOYS, more than any other born and bred AMERICAN band, are the ultimate American Dream band that has ever existed. Their superbly crafted, passionately executed music personifies those sunny breezy good times and some of the images that embody the American way of life. Originally inspired instrumentally by guitar hero Chuck Berry and musically composed by genius and brain-child leader BRIAN WILSON, this band created its very own unique identifiable sound, which has never waned throughout their forty plus year history. The Beach Boys have never submitted to any musical trends and have maintained their artistic integrety from day one. The greatest part and focal point of the Beach Boys music is their incredibly embellished trademark harmonies and multiple lead vocalists' impassioned narratives. Neil Diamond once wrote and sang,"everywhere around the world, they come to America"...the beach, surfing, great music, cars, boats, girls, good friends, school, love, marriage and simply having fun and enjoying this great life through all the ups and downs. The BEACH BOYS simply captivate the listener's mind and imagination through their music. Thirty of their most memorable classic Top 40 radio-chart hits are included here in brilliant and shimmering remastered sound. There's something here for everybody out there, fan or non-fan, this cd constitutes a musical celebration of a great American band from 1962 through 1988. Even so, they could've opted for a combination of either "All Summer Long"-"Wendy"-" and "It's O.K." instead of "Wild Honey" and "I Can Hear Music". SOUNDS OF SUMMER will brighten your day and put a smile on your face even through a harsh cold winter. Don't pass up this disc of "ESSENTIAL MUST HAVE" music by the BEACH BOYS!

Free Music Review: The Beach Boys Essentials
Hit: 5 Stars

Sounds Of Summer: The Very Best Of The Beach Boys, is the perfect, and really the only complete introduction to what was arguably the second biggest band of the 60's (Of course with The Beatles taking first and The Beach Boys have to battle that spot with The Rolling Stones).

While The Beach Boys may be compared to The Beatles as they are both named "Pop Rock", The Beach Boys developed an instantly distinctive sound, that pulled them to the near top of popular music in the 1960's. As stated in the booklet of Sounds Of Summer, The Beatles and The Beach Boys had a friendly musical competetion that really brought out the best of eachother. This Album prooves this.

The first, almost half of the album are the more commonly known early, carefree, often surfing and beach related, as The Beach Boys derived from California, surely inspiring the imaginative worlds created by their songs. But as the album progresses, you feel you are actually wittnessing The Beach Boys mature as The Beatles did in their latter years. With the musical mastermind that is Brian Wilson, The Beach Boys put out some of their best music in the late 60's with songs like "God Only Knows", voted the best love song of all time. Another great track near the end is "Darlin'" not well known at all but just as incredible as the major pop hits that are "Wouldn't It Be Nice" and "Good Vibrations". But were The Beach Boys finished after the 60's? No, a great track hear from the 80's is "Getcha Back".
If you would like to find great music of the 60's beyond The Beatles, I highly reccomend Sounds of Summer: The Very Best Of The Beach Boys as an intro into California's most colorful band.

Free Music Review: Best Collection of Their Classic Hits on One CD
Hit: 5 Stars

Many reviews focus on the plethora of best-of compilations that have been foisted on the record-buying public. And they make a valid point. However, don't let that obscure the fact that this is the best single-disc collection of Beach Boys music currently available. [And with many stores selling it at $10 or less, it's far and away the best bargain as well!]

This album has 30 of their 33 Top 40 hits. The only missing singles are 1965's non-LP single "The Little Girl I Once Knew," 1966's "Caroline No" from PET SOUNDS, and 1976's "It's O.K." from 15 BIG ONES. With a running time of 75:58, it's unforgivable that at least one of these songs wasn't also added, but there was no way you could include them all.

The only problem I have with the CD is its sequencing. "California Girls" is a classic Beach Boys song and a great lead-off track, but it was their 15th hit, not their first. And while "Good Vibrations" is unquestionably their crowning achievement and closes the album on a high note, elsewhere it's a bit awkward to go from a by-the-book cover of "Rock and Roll Music" from 1976 and then follow it up with a trio of tracks from their classic mid-Sixties period.

With that kvetching aside, this is a very enjoyable collection. The 20-page booklet has some terrific photos and serviceable liner notes. The CD has the original yellow-and-orange 45 rpm label. And the music has never sounded better. ESSENTIAL
