Free Music Review: What can I say?
Hit: 4 Stars

...42 songs for dirt cheap, it has all the old classics that the Beastie Boys have pumped out for years. This Cd can save you a lot of money by having most of the decent songs on a double CD. The first CD is a lot better than the second, causing CD 1 to be a bit over played, but this is the only real downfall I can think of. If the producers had mixed the songs up a bit to vary the two Cd's it could have been better (maybe even a 5-starer). Also you get a handy wee book giving a short paragragh behind each song that is really interesting. So Go On The Lads!

Free Music Review: Not too bad
Hit: 4 Stars

I am a huge fan of the Beastie Boys and have pretty much all their albums (still need Paul's Boutique!). This album doesn't have much that is new, but it is a great sampling of everything the Beastie Boys have done. If your a casual fan looking to get introduced to them, this would be great for you. However if you have some of their stuff and want something new, I don't think this would be for you.

The included booklet is very fun to look at. It tells a little about each song in the set and why it was included.

Free Music Review: Good, but disappointing
Hit: 3 Stars

There's some terrific music on here, no doubt, and I do indeed wish Amazon's site would let me give it the more accurate 3 1/2 stars. The problem isn't so much what's included as what's missing, and, to my ear, there are some glaring ommissions. The terrific title cut, for instance, doesn't show up; also missing are the terrifc "Girls," landmark "Time to Get Ill," "Looking Down the Barrel of a Gun," the incredibly moving "Instant Death," and the song which may well, at the end of the day, be their best to date: "Putting Shame in Your Game." The anthology is an attempt to really cover all the bases -- and, to be fair, does that awfully well -- but when you sacrifice real gems to include goofs like (the successful) "Boomin' Granny" or (the unsuccessful) "Railroad Blues," "Soba Violence," or "Benny and the Jets," it throws the set closer to novelty-quality than we might really want. If they're going to collect the rare sides, I'd be delighted if those rarities were of the quality that Fatboy Slim's "Body Movin'" remix is -- great stuff. The other stuff, if they must release it, should probably be assigned to a bargain-priced release such as one of their early and aply named CDs was. That was cool: trimming a couple dollars off list and essentially saying "it is what it is." I was hoping to find some cool surprises among the rare cuts, and except for "Body Movin'," my biggest surprise was just what all was missing. So, anyway, a summary: not a bad set at all, but instead a missed opportunity.

Free Music Review: only 5 stars???!!!
Hit: 5 Stars

this cd deserves more than 5 stars because it is the greatest beastie boys album of all. i love: shake your rump, body moving, fight for your right, alive, 3 mcs and 1 dj, sabotage, hey ladies and intergalactic. it includes an 80 page booklet with the history behind all the songs. i like body movin because it is a great remix. iloved intergalactic because breakbeat is my fav. music. and i loved the chorus* on alive. these albums rarely come out of my cd player it is that good if you only get one beastie boys cd this or pauls boutique* because that is a beastie boys classic and is the true greatest so everyone buy this cd!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Free Music Review: Beastie Boys Give Wrong Impression
Hit: 5 Stars

I am a fanatic of the Beasties (if you dont believe me check out my home page beastieboy.cjb.net) and I read all of the reviews about how the Beastie Boys omitted key songs in their history like Girls, No Sleep, and Paul Revere. This album is an anthology and not a greatest hits, and nowhere do they say it is. In fact, the Boys have also tried to forget those Licensed to Ill days because of criticism for making sexist songs like Girls. This fact is also evident on the DVD Anthology, where no Licensed songs exist either. I also must note that being the Beastie Guru i am, when i first heard the Beastie Boys i like songs like Fight For Your Right and No Sleep Till Brooklyn, but with this newfound fanaticism, their sparkle has deteriorated and they are nothing but two-bit hack songs with no thought put forth whatsoever. This album covers their personal favorites and songs with meaning. This is a great album for the starting beastie fan and if not this, check out Hello Nasty.
