Free Music Notes for 1962-1966 (The Red Album)Free Music Review: The Beatles: The Beatles 1962-1966 (1973) Hit: 5 Stars In April of 1973, just three years after The Beatles had broken up, Apple Records released The Beatles' 20th album entitled, THE BEATLES 1962-1966. This double-disc album features all of The Beatles' classic hits from their PLEASE PLEASE ME album right down to their REVOLVER album. The Beatles may have broken up, but their music was still willing to go on, starting here with the first Beatles album to be released, since the breakup.
Disc One: 1962-1965
LOVE ME DO
From the album PLEASE PLEASE ME (1963). This was actually The Beatles' first hit single. I love this song because of its original sound and that harmonica is still very recognizable today.
PLEASE PLEASE ME
From the album PLEASE PLEASE ME (1963). Another rock out song. I still to this very day love this song.
FROM ME TO YOU
From the single release FROM ME TO YOU (1963). Great song.
SHE LOVES YOU
From the album THE BEATLES' SECOND ALBUM (1964). This is a great song. This song is one of their absolute and top best. When *NSYNC was on their CELEBRITY TOUR 2002, they included four Beatles songs on their tour's setlist. This was the first Beatles song. The other three were "I Want To Hold You Hand", "Hey Jude", & "Twist And Shout".
I WANT TO HOLD YOUR HAND
From the re-released MEET THE BEATLES (1964). Their album MEET THE BEATLES was actually the American released version of WITH THE BEATLES. So, MEET THE BEATLES & WITH THE BEATLES are the same album, but released with different two different titles, as well as different track lists. This song, which kicks a**, is from the American released version of WITH THE BEATLES.
ALL MY LOVING
From the album WITH THE BEATLES (1963). This is another one of those classic songs. That opening line, "Close Your Eyes and I'll Kiss You...", is also another recognizable figure in The Beatles' song history.
CAN'T BUY ME LOVE
From the album A HARD DAY'S NIGHT (1964). This is another one of those classic songs. You know, the A HARD DAY'S NIGHT album also serves a purpose as the soundtrack to The Beatles' first film entitled, A HARD DAY'S NIGHT. The album was the first soundtrack to have the guys sing every song on the album. But this song is just outstanding.
A HARD DAY'S NIGHT
From the album A HARD DAY'S NIGHT (1964). STRUM! "It's been A Hard Day's Night and I've been working like a dog. It's been A Hard Day's Night, I should be sleeping like a log. But when I get home to you, I find the things that you do that make me feel all right..." I love this song. That verse and that opening strum is just pure classic.
AND I LOVE HER
From the album A HARD DAY'S NIGHT (1964). This is one of the best ballads The Beatles had ever done, with Paul McCartney on lead vocals.
EIGHT DAYS A WEEK
From the album BEATLES FOR SALE (1965). This song is another classic. It's just a great song and great for Tribute Bands to use for audience participation.
I FEEL FINE
From the single release of I FEEL FINE (1965). This is another one of the many greats. You know, John Lennon had recorded feedback on this song intentionally, which is actually the only time feedback had been recorded on a rock & roll song with the literal intention.
TICKET TO RIDE
From the album HELP! (1965). This is one of their hit singles from their second film of the same name. This song would be later covered by The Carpenters.
YESTERDAY
From the album HELP! (1965). This song was never one of my favorites. It is actually said to be the most recorded song in history. So many people in the music industry have covered this song. I can't even begin to count or tell you the people and how many of the people who have recorded this song.
Disc Two: 1965-1966
HELP!
From the album HELP! (1965). Ah, the album's hit title track. Great song.
YOU'VE GOT TO HIDE YOUR LOVE AWAY
From the album HELP! (1965). Beautiful song.
WE CAN WORK IT OUT
From the album YESTERDAY...AND TODAY (1966). This is also another one of my all-time favorite songs. Great song.
DAY TRIPPER
From the album YESTERDAY...AND TODAY (1966). Not a favorite.
DRIVE MY CAR
From the album RUBBER SOUL (1965). This song is one of the classics. When Paul McCartney sang this song on Live Aid with George Michael, I almost had a heartattack. Just to think that two of my favorite performers, one of them being an ex-Beatle, and the other being an ex-WHAM! member, singing a Beatles' tune.
NORWEIGAN WOOD (THIS BIRD HAS FLOWN)
From the album RUBBER SOUL (1965). Awesome.
MICHELLE
From the album RUBBER SOUL (1965). Great.
IN MY LIFE
From the album RUBBER SOUL (1965). Never a favorite.
GIRL
From the album RUBBER SOUL (1965). Great
PAPERBACK WRITER
From the single release PAPERBACK WRITER (1965). Okay.
ELEANOR RIGBY
From the album REVOLVER (1966). This is one of my favorite songs off of the REVOLVER album.
YELLOW SUBMARINE
From the album REVOLVER (1966). Later included on the album YELLOW SUBMARINE (1969). This is a great song, especially for your kids.
This album is just outstanding, covering The Beatles' earliest hits from '62 to '66. You'll love this album if you buy it now.
Free Music Review: Great CD to sing-along with Hit: 4 StarsI really like this CD. I love singing along to the Beatle songs I used to sing along to when I was a teenager. This is very close to having a Best of CD. There are a few songs I wish were on the CD but I really enjoy the songs it does have.
Free Music Review: Good, but missing some of the Beatles greatest moments... Hit: 3 StarsHey, I'm Sam. I just turned 13 (that doesn't mean I can't do a kids review, right?). Anyways...I think this is a pretty good compilation, but it is missing some of their best like, "I Saw Her Standing There", "Rain", "Twist and Shout", "Do You Wan't to Know a Secret", "I Should Have Known Better", "She's a Woman", "Taxman", "Tommorow Never Knows", "And Your Bird Can Sing", and other great songs. I mean they could have fit it all on there. The entire CD can fit on one CD, with room for more songs. I mean it is REALLY short. And the aranging wasn't that good. I mean who would listen to "Drive My Car" rather than "Rain"? I mean it's a great song, but I don't think it's a greater hit than "Rain." My solution: If you have the money, buy the albums and make a better compilation on iTunes. If you don't have the money, get this and the blue album.
Free Music Review: Early Beattles Collection 1962-6 (RED) Hit: 5 StarsA nice cross selection of Beatles favorites. If you do not have and do not want to get or cannot get all of the early Beatle's alblums this is an excellent way to hear their most popular (best?) early hits.
Free Music Review: 1962-1966 Hit: 5 StarsThis is a collection of early Beatles and whilst the music is awesome the lyrics are a bit basic compared to their later releases. To many of them have a bit to sweet sacharine air to them and they deal with love in a very juvenile manner. However, one also has to appreciate their innocent attitude towards love and the lyrics are infectious and even if you find them a bit trite you still sing along. It is also nice to see their lyrics mature with time and the later songs on this album show awesome potential. The book-let is well done but their clothes and haircuts are truly atrocious. Then again it was not like they ever dress particularly well and the 1960's was a decade when people created tacky art, dressed in the dark and the hairstyle was even worst. Even so the beatles have created som gems like eleanor rigby, I wan to hold your hand and many others.
