I must say that it was kinda disappointing. All the unfinished songs, were really unneccessary. But for a soft fan, I think it would be a nice CD to own.Free Music Review: Innovative, comprehensive, and just plain fun to listen to!

If Ken Burns compiled CDs instead of making documentaries, he'd probably have made the Beatles' "Anthology 1". Listening to it feels like a documentary, minus the video. It's even got interview and sound bites segueing in-between the songs on Disc 1. Unlike the other Anthologies, you're given more cover songs and less alternate versions of Beatles favorites. Still, the covers are fun to listen to and the alternates that we are given are worth it. And, unlike a lot of other listeners, I really liked "Free as a Bird". Also worth noting are the live songs, including their immortal performance of "All My Loving" on the Ed Sullivan show, complete with screaming girls. Listening to the alternates and false starts is an experience. It's funny to listen to the Beatles miss cues, try different time signatures and solos, as well as critisize each other. It proves that the Beatles are human after all.Free Music Review: in mono only! only for die hard fans!

watch out!the songs were mixed & recorded in mono only with the bonus rough /poor studio chats, poor outtakes! where is another lennon's unreleased song? free as abird is not the only one unreleased track! there are many more Lennon lost tapes which do not appear in this cd.
the cover is interresting but I dont like the recording of poor outtakes what George martin did in the EMI company.

Free as a bird is the only new song in 1996,...but where are the rest of unreleased Lennon songs ?The other songs had been cut from the original mono tapes in the early 60's, which includes the breakable Quarry men or (the silver Beetle) first single like Cayenne, like dreamers do, or Inspite of the danger. I'm not a huge fan of them....the whole extended versions were transfered poorly from the EMI studio from 1960 - 1965,.....you can hear the rough mixes, studio chats, interviews. The die hard Beatles fans will surely love this one.
PS: check out deep purple Anthology! that one is much much better than beatles anthoogy series. I tell ya no lies! cheers
